Wait it out. If they don't call by Wednesday lunchtime, I'd say you didn't get it but no harm in following up.

Wait until tomorrow afternoon and then call them. Good luck!

No, leave it. If they said they'd get back, well they might have got delayed. I went for a job recently and was told I'd definitely hear from them by the end of the week. Didn't, but got a letter the following Wednesday.

yeah i'd leave it for a bit ... you don't want to put them off you if they are considering you!

Call them at 1 point, maybe end of the week.
I have heard from people who could know (because they were hiring people) that sometimes they will wait for a candidates call, to see how eager that person is to get the job.

Was the letter a "please f**k off letter"? If so, OP, ring. Show interest in the job. It's better to know, than to twiddle your thumbs to madness. Oh, and HR are sometimes crap, so may acutally never get back yo you (they may forget about you in two days, nevermind a week).

an old HR manager i knew used to do that if he couldn't make up his mind about similar candidates for a job.
the one who called back first (after the dead line had passed) got the gob...
his point is that they were the more motivated

    Indeed it was.

That's the point I'm making - sorry, I should have been clearer. I actually did phone them with some lame question like "will the replies be by telephone or post" (i.e. "you said you'd definitely get back before the end of the week, it's now Friday") and it didn't make a difference. Their mind was already made up.
