Am I alone in thinking that forums should not be anonymous?

    As the title says,

Just want to get people's opinions on this one.....

Should there be more details required of a person, not just on the poker forum but in general on public forums?.....

Obv apologies if this thread should not be here but I'm only really interested in poker player's opinions tbh....

how are you going to prove who they are? what details do you want? how will you verify those details? what's going to stop someone setting up the exact same forum without the questions?

    It's the internet, it's a public network.

Well obviously this thread should be on Feedback ideally, or maybe After Hours, but I'll leave it alone for now at least.

details stored by the forum provider or accesible by everyone? not everyone wants their real name all over a forum for any number of reasons. I dont want my name there because i like to give the impression of doing work during the day (boards is crawled by google quite thoroughly)
while some people become internet warriors spewing abuse, for the most part the having a SN can enable people to speak freely.

Martin Ickc (not my real name ;))

I'd be happy enough to see it. Poker related, if people have something they maybe want to say about a tournament or a ruling or something that happened they can't wait to rush home to hide behind their keyboards to say it. The fella in the now famous pink shirt in the NSPC got a lot of stick from people on this forum, yet none of them said anything to the guy when they were in the same room as him a few hours before. This obviously doesn't apply to everyone, in fact most people are happy to let themselves be known, but there are a few who dont want to reveal their names. Maybe if their names were beside their posts they wouldn't say so much? Who knows.

And before you ask i'm Joseph B. Loggs. :)

    Hi Stephen,

Is this due to the fact that there seems to be a bit of grief in the rulings and events subforum regarding the NSPC?

I appreciate it must be frustrating for event organisers like yourself to work extremely hard on an event only to have almost no positive feedback and lots of negative feedback posted on an anonymous board like this.

However (a) its the nature of fora (and of the Irish!) that successes are glossed over and any little fault is fully dissected
    and
    (b) you (and all other event organisers) get a huge amount of free advertising and feedback from this forum.

John S (we talked on the phone last week when you were looking for dealers)

If such a thing was possible to enforce and monitor then yes - I would prefer if your real name had to stand beside your posts.

Its probably my reason for starting the thread but I've had my signature for a few days now as I feel there are a lot of posters saying things simply because they have their own agenda.....I can seriously handle any criticism that is thrown out there so long as it is reasonable and Boards is a huge tool for any Irish poker tournament organiser so I am seriously not knocking it....

But bloggers/wilkepedia the same, If you are posting something that you think is fact based why should you be allowed to remain annonymous?... why would you want to hide your name (fair enough point about being in work and not wanting your boss to find out you are reading PLO theory) but other than that I don't know why people would not want to put their name to what they are saying.

What I'm really trying to say here is that a lot of people read the likes of Boards and take what is being said as the gospel stone cold, rock hard facts, when in reality a lot of what is being posted might be very very subjective. If everyone was made to verify their name I think it would weed an awful lot of that out (very easily done by a site to get it 99% right in my very much underinformed opinion)... ...

The key thing you don't seem to be able to grasp is "public network"

It's not owned by anyone or any country NO ONE (bar a little chinese engineer with the key to the firewall room in china) can control it.

As for idiots who read nonsense on this public network and take it as gospel, you can not control moronisim.

so again i ask you, how does a site verifiy all these people? what if they're not irish?

What if the next person opens up the same site with no verification? where will the people go etc?

    It's crazy talk sir.

As said Stephen, you won't change the world by posting that here. I don't think you will get it changed at all, but the feedback forum is probably more suitable for getting opinions from a wider audience.

Took me a couple of mins to find but got there eventually :)....Poker forum ftw, anything else you just shouldn't bother Boarding about.

Could, but I can't be arsed. Also, if it is just here it is a moan, if it is there it is a suggestion. Up to him which it is.

Suggestion it is. Feedback thread started, so I am locking this.
