External Hard Drive Problem

I recently bought an external hard drive casing. I decided to format the hard drive in a pc I dont use any more and stick that in. I have installed many HD before.

But here's the problem, when I connect the external HD to pc it seems to detect it and install ok, the device appears in device manager and says it's working properly. However I cannot access the drive in explorer and it doesn't show up in disk management either. Same problem on my laptop.

I've spent hours on google and it seems like a lot of people have similar problems but I haven't found a satisfactory solution.

Has anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas what's up?

Check you have set the installed hd to 'master'.
