August Holiday Destination Advice

    Hi all,

It is my girlfriends birthday in August and I would like to take her away for a holiday. We are both 24 and tired of doing the usual holidays, we have been to Turkey, Germany and Spain last year so we are looking for something a little bit different.

If anyone could recommend somewhere that would be a different but not excessively expensive that would be great. I hope to take her away for about a week so any advice would be great. She is in a high power, stressful position so maybe a spa break for a couple of days to get her away from the hustle and bustle of Ireland might be an option but I am completely open to any advice as I am not fussed where we go.

    Thanks in advance,
    AM

Couple of years ago I brought the then +1 for a week to Tuscany. Flew into Pisa, rented a car and went from there.
It was lovely driving around all the small villages, if you like your wine its a big added bonus. Also if you have time to do some research, a spa hotel nearby for the 1st couple of days might be the answer.
Florence is very close, Siena too which is magnificent, all-in-all you'll get to see an awful lot in a short space of time.
Its not the cheapest for a week but a bit different and I'd recommend

Well italy is very nice & romantic. You could do a couple days in a city such as venice, florence etc. & then head out to the countryside for a few days. Otherwise maybe budapest, it is different & has great spas & baths if she is into that.

Can recommed Sardinia - try Alghero as a city base, beautiful old walled town by the sea. Also recommend Stintino further north, fantastic beaches. Great for snorkling or diving, crystal clear water. Flew there with Ryanair few years ago and booked apartment on the beach seperately, worked out much cheaper than packages that were available at the time.
