WSOP tourny advice?

    Yo ,

I'm seriously thinking of going to Vegas for the WSOP (not paying into the ME, unless I sat into it) My plan would be to spend (donate) approx 10K dollars on tournys. I'm not going to bother much with the cash games .....donkaments only....

What recommendations on bracelet tournys would you advise to play in for this kind of dosh, for a luckbox like myself? I've seen the schedule but I've no idea on numbers they get typically.

I'd like to play in 3 or 4 , plus an ME sat.

    advice?..

    Willie,

I plan on playing one on the 28th June and another on the 30th June (unless i am at the final table of the first one:)) Both of these are 1.5k buy in events and you would expect fields of up to 2,000-3,000 i would imagine. There is also the daily 500 in the Ventian which i heard is good.

So plenty of choices, the 10k would cover you into at least 5 good tourneys and the rest would cover expenses, gl with it

I've never played a live donkament, but I really dont like the look of the $1500's....60bb starting stack, blinds doubled after hour 1....That would be akin to an online turbo tournament no?

The 1,500s start with 3k chips and a 25-25 level, no?

Also apparently the satalites and sit n go's are insanely soft over there, you win 'tournament chips' that can be used in any of their tournaments. I'd recommend playing a few of those.

there's a 3k no limit event on june 15th.. with 6k starting stack and hour blinds starting at 25-50.. whatever you pay for an event just double it and thats the chips you'll start with.. blind timeframes are minimum an hour for side events but there's a couple of levels missing

the $1,000 stts are the only half decent structure and the standard in these was good last year, 5000 chips 20 minute blinds. The $500 had a mixed bag of players you would be unlucky not to have 5 badish players on the table 3000 stack. The lesser buyins are total crapshoots. In all stts last year the blinds jumped from 100/200 to 200/400

I was sure that 25/25 level was there for the side events last year but i could be mistaken. The super satts had really sh!t structures. playing either you need to hit the ground running.

i played one of the 500 main event super sats last year as heard they were mega soft, they are, the standard is awful, but the game is akin to flipping a coin, the structure is so bad its hard to describe and do it justice.
if u havent tripled up by the first break, 2 hours, then u come back with 4 or 5 bbs, max.

the stts in the room are beyond a joke, i played a 500 normal stt, the std was laughable.........guy called a 4 bet all in very first hand with A2 off, the 5 handed, another guy folded his bb at 300/600, when he had 750 chips starting the hand, this kinda thing.

but, again the structure in these is rediculous.

the side events are ok.............a lot of players get knocked out early, and therefore a lot of chips come into play, the pros have no interest sitting there all day in these yokes and are happy to gamble for a stack early on.
also, a lot of donks play the 1500/2k games, as they was to say they played a bracelet game and its not as expensive.

the hour levels give an ok amount of play, and i think there was a 25/25 level last year in the side events.
last year in the 2k game, i folded JJ twice, AK and QQ after putting somechips in in the first 2 levels, and still managed to be comfy and ended up cashing for day 1, there was an ok amount of play coming back on day 2, i think avg was about 50k with blinds 1/2k or thereabouts.

I would really advise any tournament player going to play the venetian games, good structures and the americans are generally terrible even worse then us irish

Have you thought about The Venetian deepstack tournys? http://www.venetian.com/DEEPSTACK08.aspx

So does it turn into a crapshoot fairly early??

    EDIT:

Just seen this post. Would it be worth the while playing a few tournaments (with all the variance that brings), or maybe stick to cash?

I'll be there for a week in early-June before heading down to Mexico to recover.

Would the standard not be alot higher than the wsop tournaments though, full of first timers just playing because it's a wsop tournament? That'd compensate the structure for me...

I played maybe 7/8 tournaments in the venetian last year and noticed the standard improved considerably the closer it got to to the ME. The reason was that international players were making up a bigger percentage of the field

if you want to play a WSOP event (and it really would be a shame not to after going that far) the softest ones should be the ones with the biggest fields. Look for a $1500 or $2000 one starting on a Saturday.
