    Tripod that is :)

Hey all, I'm only just starting out in this whole photagraphy stuff. Got myself a Canon 400D a couple of weeks ago and am currently learning the ins and outs of it.

One thing that has been on my mind though, how do you guys carry your tripod when it's not in use??? My girlfriend surprised me with a present of a Lowpro Slingshot 200 camera bag yesterday (she's great :D), and it's really cool, but for the price of it, I thought there would at least have been somewhere to clip your tripod onto, but no :(

    In my pocket...

Na usually I just carry mine around in my hand. It can get damn cold in the winter when the steel is freezing :(

I've seen some big backpacks with an attachment for tripods. :)

I treated myself to a manfroto there a little while back (with the help of vouchers for conns I had) and it came with a nice little bag with a shoulder strap. Great for swinging into people on the bus along with all the long unused straps on my bag. :D

I got a wee dinky tripod that doesn't have the bits going from teh centre column to the legs, so when it's folded up I can hook one leg over the strap for my bag (where the strap meets the bag under my left arm, I also have a slingshot) and it sits there quite unobtrusively.

Shoulder straps that came with it or the bag that came with it. It also has neoprene padding around all the legs which is nice in cold weather.
Could be a cheap solution for you: Glue some neoprene around the legs, nice and comfortable to hold then.

The 200 does have a loop on one side of the bag for a monopod, but it will only take a small one. You might try get one leg through it, but your tripod would want to be VERY light for it to take it.

I have a front pack, as oposed to "backpack" :), which I love, the lowepro toploader 75 aw (I can put inside a dslr with grip, a 80-200 attached, 2 medium size lenses like tokina 12-24, a 50 1.8, a flashgun and some filters, yes, it's not easy to squeeze all that in but it can be done)

because it leaves my back free I can sling my tripod in its bag to my back (about 45-50 cm long, bag has an adjustable strap from end to end)
I've been almost 2 weeks walking and cycling around Paris and I didn't feel for a second that I could have been better off with something else

I have a cheapo tripod but it did come with a bag so I figured out a way to run the strap through straps on my old lowe pro bag so the tripod hangs horizontally under the bag like a sleeping bag on a backpackers rucksack. It just about does the job though it's bulky at times and I have to make sure the straps are tight or it starts banging into the backs of my legs as I walk. Next time I'm buying a proper camera bag with all the clips and straps needed. :)

my cheapo one came a bag too- really handy! And I can stuff in props and crisps and all sorts in it too! Though yes, other bus-users may not like it as much as I do :D

If I didnt have a bag for it... lemme see.... you could reeally stretch a pair of tights, toss it in that, turn it into a shoulderbag/tie it to the camera bag :D (admittedly this may look stupid) otherwise Id probably fashion one out of a bin bag or something, I hate carrying the things, its cold!

Carry mine by hand and in the other hand I have my Pelican 1510 which is the right job for all my gear.

i have a manfrotto neotec which has a handle, but eventually had to buy a bag with a shoulder strap for it - much more convenient. Well worth it tho!
