Has any one done this before?

I put my name down in work to do it. Seems like a decent thing to get kids into engineering.

I'm doing the K’NEX Challenge. The IEI send out stuff to you so you know what your doing on the day.

Hopefully I dont have to do it to early in the morning as I'm not sure if I could handle 30 kids asking a million questions together before I've fully woken up!

The children love doing the K'nex challenge. My son and his friend are representing their school at the regional finals. I understand this years topic is "Celebrating the past - Creating the future". I've been searching for clues as to what they might have to construct!:pAny idea, anyone???

Its engineering related. And you have to build it using K'nex!

Seriously though if its out in the public domain already I wont put it out there. DOnt think it would be fair.

What school is your kid in ?

Yeah, I sort of gathered that already.:D I love K'nex myself. Used to adore Meccano when I was young.

A tiny little school in Kerry, so I don't think you'll be judging!!

Aside to this, is there a problem getting people into engineering? or is it a case of better safe than sorry?

There's less people doing honours maths for the Leaving Cert which has an impact on the numbers going to go into Engineering. I think the point is to get people thinking about doing engineering earlier so that they would aim for it.

    Plus Engineers are always needed.

Signed up for this after I saw this and decided to do the Engineering & Technology Champions.
So I have to give a presentation to secondary level students on my engineering experience and guide them on the pitfalls and must do's along the road.......etc......

They seem to have a huge demand for speakers in schools. Will let ye know how it goes.

Well that whole thing went fine. Gave a presentation to 60-70 students from 4th-6th years. Teachers said that students seemed interested so hopefully will get them motivated. Bit late in the year to be doing this sort of thing but there is always next year.

Would recommend people to do this, if for nothing else try promote engineering but to help yourself your CV and hone the presentation skills.
