There seems to be three types of people who post on here. The first group tend to think that they are the Buddha of poker strategy; these people tend to pat each other on the back at every chance. Armed with charts and stats, they commiserate each other on their bad beats which ironically seem to clog the bad beat section each day. Coincidence? The second group, tend to be all doom and gloom. They spend their days pondering what it would be like to be Phil Ivey and hoping they get that big spin. They don’t post in the bad beat section because they knew they would be sucked out on. If they win they shrug their shoulders and even though they were ahead, they seem to be never endingly surprised that they held up. Ironically they seem to be the better players; they have no false illusions of grandeur. They once had high ambitions and like Ed Norton in Fight Club they have been crushed by the poker gods and the Chief. They have had their spirit broken by numerous 1 outers. They are on what seems to be no less than a sort of ‘Life Tilt’. I can imagine this group wander around everyday on tilt, on tilt at the guy who cant speak english when their ordering a pizza, on tilt at the at the taxi driver who is too slow at giving out change clearly looking for a tip. Just generally on tilt. This are the wise ones, they have seen it all before. Have had quads busted by a royaler. The third group are in the poker purgatory, they are the young guns, they haven’t been in the system long enough to have they spirits broken or fall into the false sense of safety in numbers that they first group offer. Only time will tell where they land. I think however there will be a war one day between all these groups. Blood and carnage will be the victor.

Anyway my question is in relation as to the why people seem to think that the games in Ireland are the ‘softest’ in Europe as someone has said? This is in relation to the thread entitled “Irish poker where do we stand”, but felt a separate thread was needed as I’m asking a different question. I’ve played in a few different countries and haven’t found the games noticeably different in either way. The games in Ireland are 1/2 primarily and in comparison to the 1/2 games around the world, I can’t see them being much softer. I haven’t been to Vegas but surely they have their fair amount of lost nemos? Do you think the cash games in Ireland are really that soft or does anyone want to defend them?

These threads depress me. Today I've realised I'll never beat 5/10, will have my "spirit crushed" sometime soon, will never be sponsored, and will end up either posting bad beats forever or getting tilted by taximen for the rest of my poker life.

    Poker is goot

Live cash in Australia is softer than Dublin or Galway IMHO - the softer the better obviously, the Australian players are probably thrilled they don't have to swim in the shark tank that is the Dublin scene :)

Vegas 1/2nl was far softer than any 1/2pl game I've played in town. Even softer than the 1/1 game I used to play in the Jackpot.

1/2 in Dublin is still very soft though.

I agree with a lot of what the OP said. Particularly in relation to the category he describes as the "Buddhas of Poker Strategy." I am willing to admit I am really just learning this game. Like so many others I have realised that the limited knowledge I gained which allowed me to be better than the average fish was was just the first foothill on a long climb to understanding this game. Upon reaching the first, smallest, summit, I sought help in reaching the next and, on many occasions, was greeted with nothing but contempt. Apparently a lack of understanding of certain aspects of the games makes me a "retard" or some other charming derogatory term. Rather than learning I was put off asking questions. When people ask why Boards is becoming less and less theory based then I would submit that it comes from a lack of patience with those who need to work out some of the concepts, that others have already grasped, for themselves. There are, of course, notable exceptions. Some of the posters still show patience and a desire to impart knowledge on others so that they might learn. I thank them for the help they have given me and continue to give me. I just wish that the largest threads on the forum were about a tricky decision in a cash game or tournament rather than a bitching session over a scandal at the EPT. I learn more from the former to be honest.
