The Revenue have just published an updated list of people who received what they call a favourable determination since 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2008 in relation to their application for tax exemption under what is known as the "artist exemption"

The list can be found here

    http://www.revenue.ie/publications/lists/art_list3.htm

I note that some people qualified for "Artistic photography" and others qualified for "Photography" and others for "Photographic Prints"

Just in case anyone making money from their photography may qualify under this category.

More information can be found here on the Artist Exemption

Cian Clarke who used to post here is on the list for Artistic photography. One of the best photos I saw on boards was from him

I remember that photograph. It turned up in one of the challenges at the time and I was so damn jealous of him.

    RoryW, thanks a million.

*sigh* well, my name isn't on the list. I guess I'll just have to continue to pay tax on my photography earnings.

Just to point out that thats not an exhaustive list. Anyone availing of the exemptions prior to those dates cannot be named.

Last year there were 103 new names added to the list, one a photographer:confused:

However, anyone seriously considering going professional, it's definitely something you should consider. Whatever income your aimimg for it makes it achieveable with 50-60% of the sales you'd have to achieve otherwise.

Thats why U2 for example are not on the list.

This exemption is for Income Tax only. You still pay PRSI.

If your income happens to be more than 250k p.a., a restriction applies to this exemption. Mentioning it just in case.......
