    Hi Folks,
Looking at 2 types of slates.
Tegral Rivendale and Capco Cromley which have both the same guarantees but Capco is about 100 euro less per 1080 slates.
Tegral Rivendale is Blue-Black while Capco Cromley is a lightly blacker and looks well. Capco also have a very nice ridge cap.
I would be keen to use Capco because they look better for the type of house i have but alot of people suggest to use Tegral.
    Anyone any experiences of Capco?
    Thanks,
    Pete

I don't intend to go natural because front of house is north facing and surrounded by trees so there is a huge likelihood of moss build up where the other slates would not be half as bad.
    Anyone experience with Capco slates.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Im in the middle of dealing with capco slates are due tomorrow, the one observation i would have is that the cromleigh is almost unreckonisible once on the roof of the house you cant see the imitation natural effect that they have.(You may as well get the fibre cement slate at €1.20 a pop instead. This may be the same for the rivendale also im not sure. Im getting a natural slate from capco for €0.15cent dearer than the cromleigh.

have used capco franvisa (natural slate) in my gaff, looks grand had no problems with capco...in fairness to them, they even kept the slates for me for 3 months and still gave me the slates at old price (difference of 8%)

still no sign of moss, staining etc, i believe "slates" had an idea to stop any moss etc on the slate... natural is the way to go imho (now!! i was between two minds before)

if you do a search on this site you'll find a thread on this topic

That depends on the natural slate, some can be a nightmare to use, i.e. break very easy and waste can be very high.

    Hi,
I was in Capco an hour ago and Natural Slate was 1.00 euro dearer than Cromleigh. 1800 euro for 1080 Cromleigh.

If you use Brazilian slates you also have to fix them with slates hooks as well as copper nails, this should be taking into account when counting up the labour costs

Yes indeed it should you have to use point hooks, but i am getting my slates done for free will probably even put some of them up myself!

im looking at cupa heavy3 and cupa h4, both from spain and distributed through brooks in ireland,

cost 1.40 plus vat and 1.44 plus vat,

a builder at home is using them and they look A1, i d rather have to deal with moss than them turning white etc.

im not sure if the name is correct but has anybody heard of blue diamond slates? i heard they were made by tegral group in germany? supposed to be cheaper than ordinary tegral

    Anybody any info?

There is indeed a blue diamond slate which is imported. Not sure from which country but they are not a Tegral slate. In saying that Tegral are part of a larger consortium so perhaps its a sister/parent company that manufacture them.

We have gone down the route of using Cambrian recycled slate from Lafarge roofing. (google it).

They are made of 60% recycled slate, with glass fibre and the likes thrown in.

I only have a sample tile at the moment, but I have to say I am very impressed with it, and they have a good fixing procedure.

Obviously I cant comment on how good they are up as we havent built yet, but they've come highly recommended.
