Replacing broken inspiron 6400 screen?

My laptop fell and the screen is broken, not cracked but you can see dark patches inside like a liquid is spilled. It works fine with another monitor so I want to get a new screen.

Does anybody have any tips? Is it easy enough to replace? where should I get it.

I was thinking I might get a second hand inspiron, maybe broken for cheap. Or are there any shops in dublin that would have a second hand one and stick it in for me?

the support manual for the 6400 is pretty good. is a bit tricky getting the plastic bezel around the edge of the screen off, but just do everything slowly and gently

i actually did it without removing the display assembly from the base, but might be easier if you do, because you can put it on a flat surface then

I actually had that off before getting the manual. When it fell some bits of the bezel popped out, so I could ease it off with a knife.

I am also wondering if other generic screens could fit in the same space.

I'm not sure what screens would be compatible, all i know is the sceen from the inspiron 1520 is the same as the 6400.

Try this. It's not cheap but it should work. Failing that try and get your hands on a second hand one on ebay.
