    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a really GOOD gynecologist in Galway. I prefer female but male doctors are alright too as long as they are professional.

Try the Galway Family Planning Clinic on Augustine Street.

They should be able to recommend a good doctor

*I realise what the title says, but I like to break the rulezzzz..

Is there actually such a thing in Ireland (for non-pregnancy related check-ups?)
I always fly to Germany (proper scans, pap smear takes a day max, ultrasound, proper breast-check, all for 10 Euros), but I guess that's not feasible for everyone...

Are you serious...no such a thing as good gynecologist (pregnancy or not pregnancy related)...just can't go every time abroad for check-ups..

I'll answer maturely for you..being a grown up...

Dr. Derham is the best in Galway. He's in Dockgate buildings but I've been living in Dublin on and off, I believe he's in Bon Seceurs.

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) you usually go to your GP or a family planning clinic. But from my experience, they're just not as advanced (equipment-wise) as abroad.

Cheers for the serious reply, i almost started to think people use the forum only for their childish fun, not for sharing useful information.

generally that is what ineternet forums are used for

    "Hey guys , I <insert problem/opinion/story here>"

*cue many, many "witty" responses by seasoned comedians"

I count at least 3 other 'serious' replies, including the first response, but they implied you'd have to look further than Galway.

If you asked the same question aloud in public, you'd get a similar range of responses.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what constitutes a 'good' gynecologist?
    Warm hands?
I'd be more concerned with them giving a correct diagnosis than having a lovely bedside manner.

Doctor Roger Derham is really great.
He is based in the Bon Secours in Galway and I think he's in Barringtons in Limerick too. I have been going to see him for a few years now as I have had awful problems in the past with many things, all of whick are sorted now thanks to him. He's very professional & also easy to talk to so if you , like me are embarrassed at the thoughts of a male gynae, don't be he's sound!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,711 ✭✭✭Redhairedguy

Instead of asking strangers, try someone whose job it is recommend "Gynaes"

    Galway Family Planning Clinic: 091-562992

    Ask for John....

She's my family doctor and she's grand for smears and the like but not anything non-standard. Which I suppose is the thing about GPs they're not specialists.
