Any update / feedback on Bellewstown . Last year there were some mixed posts about the place and I am mulling over joining (subject to a vist in the near future) but wondering if anyone had any info, positive or otherwise?

Im a member and think its a nice course. Putting Greens look to be nearly done, theres a driving range, clubhouse is basic enough but has changing rooms showers and all that. No joining fee sold it for me other clubs around were a lot more expensive

hmm, seriously thinking of joining. I see there is student membership for 500 odd. I wonder do they count a trainee accountant as a student?

I have played there twice in recent weeks. Its OK. Golf at a price.
Be warned that it can be cold as its on high ground there! This is especially true on the back 9.
Its also hilly in places so not for the slow and faint hearted. Theres plenty of buggys on offer though.
    They have a website:

Really depends on what you're looking for in a course and how much you are willing to pay. The driveway into the club is poor and hard on the car!

i've played there twice recently and it's not bad. Not bragging but i'm a low handicap and a member of a great club, so my standards are high. Bellewstown looks poor from the 1st tee, but the course does improve. I'd consider it providing there is no big up-front fee required. I'd probably wait a year so though. There's too many course being built - market will saturate so I'd expect prices to drop....

Bellewstown has about 7 or 8 decent holes. 3, 4, and 5 are quite nice and can be very tough. 15, 16, 17 and 18 are a great four hole finish and are quite a challenge too. The rest of the course feels only like a stretch of short grass on the side of a hill with a flag at the end. They need more bunkers, trees and better maintenance. But it is a very young course so I'm sure they'll improve with time. The general slope of the course makes it a very different challenge and very low scoring is difficult as distances can be hard to read on uphill and downhill lies.

The last few times I was out in the past month, the course was in great shape and the greens were excellent. There was no sign of grass clippings anywhere (clippings were the scourge of last season) and all the bunkers were constantly raked and maintained (also the scourge of last year). I just wish they would fix their bl**dy driveway. I know it probably costs 40 or 50 grand to tarmac a stretch like that, but I don't want to add new shocks for the car to price of golf. It's expensive enough with all the physiotherapy fees...

Also, it appears that more people are actually playing this year. The last competition had 50 entrants. Last year the average seemed to be 15 or so. 50 makes for much more fun. Also they are running Matchplay competitions within the club too. To me, that's what being a member of a club is all about. Playing competitions, meeting people and having a laugh. At least they are well on their way to that now.

    Dala:

Just out of interest, where are the new courses being built??

I was out that way last week so I had a quick look around(only from the first tee and car park as I didnt have much time) it seems to be as everbody says, plenty of hills and steep inclines and the driveway is screaming out for tarmac.Hope to go out and play maybe late next week as I am off , but I am leaning towards Hollystown now as its a lot closer to home and work. As is Elmgreen

I live on the Dublin/Meath/Kildare border and a lot of clubs have opend there in the last 2 years or so. Rathcore, Moyvalley, Knightsbrook for example have all opened recently and I hear most are struggling and entrance fees are dropping....

2 putting greens look near ready and theres bays being put on the driving range too. The road down to the clubhouse really needs to be re done
