i like it, a little dark or something around the face...loses alot of detail imo.

tho i'm woeful at c and c for portraits

I like it but it seems a little "tight"? if its a crop I would see how it looks with a ittle more space around it.

Basically I like Street Photography and I'm trying to get better at composition etc. I also love b&w and i'm trying to improve how I convert to b&w

Should have said before but I'd like comments on the compopsition, cropping, b&w and how to improve.

This is the original unedited photo...

here is another b&w version but I thought it was too dark...

I prefer the colour, unedited image. It seems to have more character (to me).

I know some images are more suited to B&W but, we live in a world of colour (not over-saturated colour either).

    Anyway, just my view.

I like the composition actually. You've appropriately cropped some of the yuck out of right hand side. The conversion to b/w is a little too hard for my taste and I'd probably prefer the colour version overall but that's just a personal taste thing. The b/w version does give a sense of an 'older age' where not so perfect reproductions of the original image were the general result and if that was the desired effect then you've certainly nailed it. Overall though i'd say it very nice.

It has to be large, but less contrast!!! Please.
And play a little more with the BW conversion.

not that I am an expert, but the B&W conversion needs work. It looks like it was taken with a P&S and overly processed.
Also, I would clone out the Centra on the bag to give it a more timeless look

Thanks for the comments I'll give the b&w another go and I'll post it at a higher res next time.

    Cheers,

Thanks Cambo. Actually I laughed when I read your comment as it was taken with a p&s :)

Right I've looked at what people said re: the tight crop and being too dark and had another go at this photo. One glaring problem I noticed is that the face isn't as sharp as it could be but putting that aside and using this as a learning experience let me know what you think of the crop, composition and the type/quality of the b&w and anything else you might notice. I love b&w but I find it hard to get it right where it would have some impact on the viewer. Unfortunately my skills don't extend to cloning out the centra bag, yet.
