The Masters TV coverage is always a bit patchy lads - anyone know anywhere that will have it online, legally?

If you are going to post it it should be legal. And no "otherwise"

I thought Setanta had the Irish rights now? RTE lost them.... might wrong but I know for sure that Setanta are also showing the par 3 contest on Weds...

they are? Cool. That's a first I think...

And Ruggie, didn't you know that when you put these magic quote marks around things like "this" it makes it all okay, legally and "otherwise"?? :D:p :pac:

I think the most Masters coverage you'll get is on the BBC. I'm fairly sure Augusta is very strict about who can broadcast and for how long and i think the BBC shows the maximum possible. They also have a few of their own cameras so when the yanks go to a break, the BBC can still show some footage.

The Par 3 comp is on bbc interactive on weds night. followed at 11.20 by the always excellent masters preview.

Anybody who wants a link to watch it online, PM me later in the week!

Last year i watched it online thru the BBC website.
Supposed to be only available to those in the UK, but it used to work with MediaPlayer and not with RealPlayer (error: available on to UK users etc) - or vice versa.

Showed all the coverage - before the BBC tv start time, you could watch the pictures, scores, etc but no commentary.

Will be watching it on BBC this week. The Masters in April wouldn't be the same without Peter Alliss. Someone please tell me he is commentating again this year?

I just hope that smug Shane O'Donoghue doesn't show his face.

I cannot believe that RTE will not be showing the masters. Last year they only showed the saturday and sunday. I remember e-mailing them asking why this was the case and did I receive a reply , did i fcuk!
It just shows RTE's commitment to showing good quality sport is non existent. If it was "celebrity" masters then they would provide non stop coverage.
Setanta Ireland are showing 2 hours more coverage each night than the BBC this year. How this is I have no idea, maybe the first two hours will be coverage from the previous day. We will find out thursday!

Not true, they're doing a fine job covering the new eircom League of Ireland season. Not their fault that Setanta were willing to pay over the odds for the rights.

Maybe you could inform us folks not in the know how much exactly did setanta pay for the rights? Did RTE make a bid, if so how much?
When RTE had the rights last year why only show the final two days? We are talking about the worlds most prestigious golf tournament here. If thats not a lack of commitment to good sports coverage then I dont know what is.

please keep the discussion on the golf rather than any other agenda you might have. Take any other discussion to the broadcasting or television/terrestrial forums.

Well, i'd argue that the Open is a more prestigious golf tournament, but i take your point. I can see exactly why they wouldn't pay over the odds for rights to show it. Being funded by the taxpayer it would arguably be irresponsible for it to do so. Not least when the BBC, a channel which a huge number of golf fans in Ireland already get, is also showing it.

As for the figures invloved and bidding, maybe google will throw up the answers your looking for.

I am subscribed to (splutter) Eircom for broadband, and they have some kind of streaming sport service for their users:

    http://sports.eircom.net/setanta/

Does anyone know if it will carry the masters (I can't check the schedule unless I'm logged in over an Eircom broadband connection). Appreciate if someone who is logged in over Eircom could check the schedule and confirm/deny to the group:

    http://setanta-video.eircom.net/eircom/public/Schedule.aspx

    thanks
