Shutdown Problem

I have a Compaq NX6325 laptop, approx 1.5 years old, running XP Pro. Lately, when I shutdown the computer, it seems to shut down fine, but then the power button, the mute button, and the power light on the laptop case stay lit up. The rest of the computer seems to have shut down. This happens on both AC and battery power. However, on battery, the battery will go flat after a couple of hours, at which point I presume the lights go out. On AC, If I pick up the laptop, or move it, the lights will sometimes go out, but not always.

I then have to hold the power button for 6 seconds to shut the computer down properly. Can anybody help, it would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: After the shutdown has been attempted, and the lights have stayed on, I have discovered if I tap/press the laptop a couple of inches beneath the ctrl key on the far left of the unit, then the lights go off.

This sounds like it might be a loose connections or something, anyone have any ideas?

Are you shutting down via Windows or using the power button itself?
It could be that your power button is set to hibernate or go on stand by.

    Hey KN,

Thanks for the reply, but, no, I'm just shutting down as normal...Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down.

I'm pretty certain there is some sort of loose connection or something, as this morning, before I shut it down, I pressed around on the area I mentioned, and then shut down. The lights all went out as normal then. Just not sure exactly what is loose, as I don't really have a clue about computers, and not sure what would make the lights stay on like this.
