Removing moles

    Hi,

I am interested in getting two moles removed from my face. Can this be done by a GP or would I have to go to a plastic surgern to get it done?

If both can do it, which would be the better option - and what are the likely costs from each aspect?

    Thanks.

Some GPs do mole removal and small surgeries but they are rarely willing to touch your face for fear of scarring you. I know two people who had moles removed from their faces and they were both sent to a cosmetic surgeon. Neither have been left with any permanent scarring. One was treated under local anaesthetic as a day patient in hospital and the other had her mole removed in the surgeons consulting rooms. Personally I'd say a cosmetic surgeon would be best as your dealing with your face but you'll have to go to see your GP anyway for a referal so see what he/she says.
The GP is obviously the cheaper choice but VHI health insurance should cover either option.(They do pay for small surgeries carried out by GPs). If you don't have insurance you might be able to arrange to be sent to a public clinic as mole removal is rarely considered to be just a cosmetic procedure these days.
    Good luck with it :)

    I have VHI.

The main mole I need removing is on my eyebrow, so they would probably have to clip the hairs a bit and then remove. Thus scarring would probably be not noticible on the eyebrow.

The other, is much smaller - but starting to grow larger, and is on my chin.

    Thanks for the advice.

If the mole on your chin is starting to grow you should see your GP as soon as you can manage it. Don't put it off :)
Very best of luck with it all :)

my friend got hers lasered off as a day pt by a cosmetic surgeon. id say def head to one if your dealing with your face. if one is starting to grow then def get it checked out by your gp.

I would strongly urge you to make an appointment through your GP to see a Consultant Dermatologist.
You can have them removed under local anaesthetic.
    Do it immediately.

OP, I've had two moles removed, one of them was between my eyebrow and the inner corner of my eye, the other on my arm.

Definitely make an appointment with your GP now (DONT leave it till it grows bigger, scarring will be more noticeable) and get it removed by a plastic/cosmetic surgeon.
The result will be much neater and if the mole is quite small (mine was only a couple of mm in diameter) it literally takes about 20 seconds do do under local anaesthetic. I have a small scar which is barely noticeable, so definitely get it done through a cosmetic surgeon. Afaik I don't think mine cost that much, had it done in Blackrock Clinic and twas grand. My mole was beginning to grow at the time so they'll probably do some tests just to make sure everything's okay.

    :)

Anyone at all know the answer to this?

I think you're better going to a proper dermatologist, I got one off my back a few months ago and they'll test it to check it's benign, it's well worth getting all your moles checked by a professional while you're at it, just to be sure!

As previous poster said, the injection just stings a little then you can't feel a thing and it's done in minutes, I went shopping straight after and was grand:D
