Don't have this album myself but to refresh people's memories.

    Skull

    Rebound

    Together or Alone

    Magnet's Coil

Love the opening to Skull and Together or Alone. Sebadoh are great.

Bakesale , for me this is seabadoh at their peak, no filler, just 15 great tracks. Just listen to the songs posted by the earlier poster. Magnets coil, not a friend, dreams and license to confuse all indie classics. Well worth checking out and their playing Whelans in 2 weeks too

    Some reviews:)
Rolling Stone (12/1/94, p.126) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Sebadoh are Lou Barlow's Velvet Underground, wrapping his confessions in fuzz, hiss and distortion and setting them alongside complementary songs by bandmates....Individual songs offer slightly different perspectives..."
Spin (12/94, p.78) - Ranked #16 in Spin's list of the `20 Best Albums Of '94' - "...Sebadoh's cleanest, most pro recording to date..."
Spin (9/94, p.136) - Highly Recommended - "...a consistent, even professional pop-rock record....Like the young Elvis Costello, he flirts with emotional fascism twisting love-song cliches into clever negations..."
Q (11/94, p.124) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...The tone is conversational, the choice of words precise, yet natural. Sebadoh may have arrived at a potentially very popular midpoint between R.E.M. and Nirvana..."
Alternative Press (10/94, p.95) - "...Sebadoh continue their streak of winners on BAKESALE, an album brimming with edgy, off-kilter pop....It's that self-aware wink that keeps so much self-doubt from becoming grating....There's really not a bad song on here..."
Musician (8/94, p.85) - "...the overall effect is lightly, pleasantly numbing. Which is part of their appeal, one suspects..."
Village Voice (2/28/95) - Ranked #20 in the Village Voice's 1994 Pazz & Jop Critics Poll.
Mojo (Publisher) (1/95, p.53) - Included in Mojo's "25 Best Albums of 1994" - "...their most consistent long-player yet with brisk, riffing nuggets....Sebadoh are surely poised for greatness."
    NME (Magazine) (12/24/94, p.23) - Ranked #27 in NME's list of the `Top 50 Albums Of 1994.'
NME (Magazine) (8/27/94, p.39) - "...Set alongside Barlow's fearless lyrics, quality control is no longer an issue for this band..."

Are all album of the week threads this desolate? Do people just vote for albums and then say "Job done" or something?

Opps! I thought it was some bunch of kids from Carlow playing in their grannies shed, and for that their not bad! An over the top drummer who's shouting to be heard all the time, an average singer, he can sorta hold a song, but nothing special, some average makieup lyrics they threw together in the pub some hours earlier. But no!!
Some idiot compared them to the Velvet Underground, goes to show you how bad the music scene is these days' :-(

That's some pretty poor stuff to be calling an "alternative" or any type of band.
An opening act to a puppet show :-)

3 people voted for the album so it was never going to be a hot bed for discussion. There was a 2 page thread for gold a month back or so

    :-)

wouldn't really call 1994 these days!

I had this album years ago and lost my copy of it a long time ago. wouldn't mind listening to it again but I have a feeling it's not aged all that well. there are a couple of good songs there but they were slightly overrated. enjoyed harmacy at the time too but haven't listened to that in an age either. went to see them in the mean fiddler back in 99. they were pretty shammy. lou barlow was hammered and screwing up all over the place. wasn't tempted by the reunion gig last week.

So in conclusion: if memory serves me correct an ok album by an average band

Um, what have you actually listened to by them? Because... they're fantastic, in my opinion obviously. I don't want to push this if you really don't like them but please listen to the song 'Spoiled' if you haven't heard it, I can't see how anyone wouldn't like it... Out of curiousity, what made you want to post? It doesn't seem like you were a fan to begin with, do you just pick up random albums? I'm not trying to be a smartarse here... just wondering.

Also, has this been re-released then?

Sebadoh are pretty good, though I must admit I haven't listened to them much, and was initially a bit disappointed when I wasn't blown away by them, since I love Lou's influence in Dinosaur Jr.

    pretty good Lp

they played The Rock Garden a few weeks before it came out - round the time Skull was released.

The 7" that comes with the album is good. Nice version of On Fire
