How do u stand up from floating on the back? I can't seem stand from the back position. I lift my head up and that's meant to bring your body down but then i freak out and my legs go all over the place.

    How is it done?

It's quite a difficult one to master for some people. Normally you will either better/more comfortable on your front or on your back, mostly a 50:50 split.

Like everything when learning to swim the hard part is trying to stay calm and controled when doing it. Any panicing creates splash and then you get water on your face and then it's all over.

The best way I've found to describe going from your back to your front is:
    - Lying on your back, bring your knees the whole way up to your chest.
    - Then bring your face forward to try and put your face in the water.
    - This will put you in a sitting position so then just extend your legs to stand.

By bringing your legs up to your chest, it ensures that the whole movement happens a lot quicker whereas if you just lift your head, it will take too long for your legs to reach the bottom of the pool and more likely you will sink beforehand.

Hope this goes some way to helping you. Just remember to practice and do it slow and not panic.

    Hi lisajane
Some girls find this manoeuvre difficult because of buoyancy around the hips. I'm treading so carefully here... :-D

Basically, because ladies carry more buoyant flesh on the hips as opposed to muscle, the hips float better than the shoulders - which makes it hard to submerge the hips when you want to.

So bend your knees and allow your feet to drop before lifting your shoulders - oh and turning sideways a little helps too.
