well i had the same plan, i did some trys on a elements body and they came out ok put i was never happy with the finish, its each to there own as always, i like my steel aks yes you can get a clone that does the same job and fire the same small bbs but thats not the point. This is the JG rpkrf0.jpg

I got my hands on a perfect picture of the reinforcements so will try to emulate that.

I have a dremel now, so, how did you go about your tester?

And what filler do you recommend, I have no choice but to finish this thing now I have it, bloody great though :D

I have to find rear sights too, so will you puding if you get the rmw one.

I used plastic card from my modeling to fill out the area then i used some 2 part cement i had i will have to dig out the box to give you the name, i then sanded and polished the area with my dremel and some wet and dry, after that i just added the reenforcement with some more plastic card, i looked correct but i could never get the finish right.

Did you ever hear of jb weld? I hear its the stuff to use to stick on the reinforcement.

I'll try to make some aluminium reinforcements myself, and finish them like the metal.

I have very little modeling experience so have no idea of the products available or what they can do, do you have any suggestions on different ways to go about filling the ak mag well indent? Is there any universal filler that would suit and be able to be sanded down, and resist cracking etc.

there are a number of hardware store fillers that i found work you just have to build it up slowly in layers to stop the cracking, i've also had some luck with modeling product like 'brown stuff'

Would it be up to scirmishing?

And to affix the aluminium reinforcements to the metal receiver, would jb weld work or is there a good metal to metal compound available?

i used some 2 part epoxy adhesive i cut and ruffed up both sides to make a good surface for the adhesive and you can alway pin it if you wanted to, but i just used the adhesive as long as the 2 parts have no oil or stuff on them and there ruffed up enough you will not be parting the 2 half's in a hurry,

epoxy glue then is it, would that be best and strongest?

I just managed to make a fake rivet out of solder, go me!

Now to do the hard bits :(

I actually had to clime out of the deep pool of ignorance I was wallowing in (or use Google, as other people would say) to find out what this RPK thing is that you're obsessed about. Never answered my question about what it is. Now I know. It's a really tricky Holy Grail of reproducing a directly unavailable AK variant, right?

Just got a reply from RMW, they can sell the receiver alone seperately for anyone who already has a semi finished rpk, I know a couple of na madrai do.

I dont know if it would be instantly compatible with a regular tm or vfc based rpk, so modding may be necessary, I'll have to ask but I suspect it may be different.

sounds interesting i might have to follow up on that, the rmw items where old Inokatsu stoke or used the same machines to make so there Inokatsu/Guarder so i would say some modding might be in order for either the tm or vfc based aegs
