Brief question. My brother is adding an extension to his B+B and has been told that before works commence he has to inform the Health and Safety Authority. He added another extension some years ago and did not inform the HSA. So when was this new regulation brought in?

As it is a business he is required to alright under the Health Safety & Welfare (Construction) Regulations 2006.

    he also needs to appoint

1 health and safety supervisor for the design process
2 health and safety supervisor for the construction process

start with apponting an architect - who can also fulfill roll 1 above

a fire safety certificate will also be required - again architect will advise

    Overview

a whole raft of legislation and regulation applies to construction projects that does not to one off houses which are commisioned by / built by the intended occupier
