OK a mate of mine has a laptop and it has just died, just refusing to switch on at all but the killer is nothing is backed up.

Is there any chance of saving it? or even saving the data?

To get access to the data just remove the hard disk and buy a hard drive enclosure. An enclosure is essentially just a box that turns an internal drive into an external drive.

Check it with a compatible charger or compatible battery. Apart from that I can't think of anything.
