was talking about airsoft in work today with a few guys and one lad who works with me notified me about this amazing piece of equipment.

He is around 18 yrs old but has been in the fca for some time and is an experienced airsofter with a large collection, he is however selling this rifle due to him getting a newer one he has fallen in love with, but i have a question

when i asked what fps it was, he said it got chroned in the ballyboughal site, galyway and another. He said it came in under the legal limit and there was no problem, he couldnt remember numbers but said it was uner the 1j so no problem.

However ive been looking at websites and the specs all say its over, in some cases stating its 450 fps.

its the maurin (spelling) edition, fully metal and wood with the bolt action shells.

im just confused, cause he is a really nice guy, and has offered it to me for 180... which when ive searched online is very cheap considering me all the stuff im getting with it.

but i have to question wether this gun is legal or not.

he says he hasnt tweaked it in any way, just normal maintanance.

but i dont wana fork out cash if it cannot be used, espseically if its over the legal limit which it seems to be.

but hes adament that it is legal, and has shown me videos of him skirmishing with it, and says it was chroned on site and passed ok.

Any input in this, cause its a beautiful piece of craftsman ship and i would definatly want it

also worth to note he bought it online and it was allowed through customs , so im assuming it is under the limit.

again input from you experienced guys welcome.

I believe it fires at 450FPS using 0.34g 8mm BBs, not sure if that's under 1J with that weight of BB though...

Also i wouldn't reccomend skirmishing it with the shell ejection feature...You could get the Dboys spring powered version from eirsoft for 170 squid which fires at 320FPS with .2s i think, i'd go that route if i were you, spring power is more reliable compared to gas especially in cold Ireland

Do you mean the Marushin Kar98k? This one here is under 1j so I would presume there are different joule models

its more of a wall piece than an actuall skirmish gun, you only get something like 5 shots with it and then have to collect the shells back up and reload them.,

These shoot at about 250fps on 134a w/ 0.34g BB.

    Not 450....

What websites? foreign ones? remember a lot of stuff is downgraded when it comes into Ireland. For example, the CA steyr aug a1 here fires at over our limit http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ERA-CA-008P-AUG.htm but on the Irish sites it's less http://www.airsofteire.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=36&category_id=14&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26 http://www.mainirishairsoft.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=226

It's a different style of play required. Same as the Garand. I recall the recent AI review on the Garand and one particular remark about it was that it made you work for your "kills". Same would go for the KAR98 I should imagine.

Both different rifles from a different period to what we all use these days.

Too true. Also, site sometimes pimp the FPS to increase sales. Ireland doesn't matter to most of them.

Best way to confirm fps is check reviews on Arniesairsoft.co.uk where they chono them themselves.

The Garand though is a terrible performer, I used to have one, "attempted" to skirmish it but it really did not go far at all. It's a very nice collectors gun but not a skirmishers gun imo.
