OK, i'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to post this thread but here goes.....

I'm in 5th yr and in the next few weeks our school will start selecting the students that will be prefects next year. It's a position which means a lot to me and here's where i need your help.

The process of "putting yourself forward" to be a prefect requires you to write a letter. In other words, making us 'formally' apply for the position. I'm having trouble writing this as it seems to feel like I'm saying "oh, look at me? I'm so great, i really want to be prefect.... blah blah blah"

I'm an average English student but can't seem to get this letter write. I'v done numerous drafts and they all suck.

I represent the school on rugby teams and have done since first year. I also want to mention the whole responsibility aspect of me, my commitment to school (i get good grades), and some other stuff to support my case

So please please please leave me some tips that I can use to help create a letter, convincing people i'd be a perfect prefect!

All help/posts/comments greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance:D

That is usually what they want in these cases. I wouldn't gush too much over what an honour it would be to be selected and all that - sounds like they just want a way to help them figure out who they should pick and who actually wants the position (and is willing to bother writing a letter). Just something along the lines of 'I would like to be considered as a prefect for next year. Throughout my time in school I had positive experiences dealing with the prefects and would like the chance to take on that role in my final year. I have been involved with x, y and z...' and then list off the things you've done and the responsibility you've demonstrated. (For example, prepared to stick to something throughout the whole year rather than getting bored with it, or any leadership-related stuff.) No need to go over the top with it. :)

Yep, thanks for that. Do you think it would be necessary to write it as a formal layout. i.e my address, schools address, etc etc.?????

Use your judgement on that I guess. I'd personally think them ridiculous for expecting it, unless they're going to send out letters to your home address informing you that you've been made prefect. They know where you live, as long as it's not a letter scribbled in crayon on the back of a paper bag you should be grand... ;)
