I have been a "Mormon" for many years and I find that many christian faiths are strongly against the church and its teachings apart fprm being different I dont know what the issue is.

It would be interesting to have a discussion on this with first hand information, since most Christians gain their information on Mormonism from non-Mormon or anti-Mormon sources.

I think the following would be some areas where many Christians have difficulties with Mormonism.

    1. They would see Mormons as exalting the Book of Mormon to a point equal to, or even higher, than the Bible.

    2. They see Mormonism as teaching that God was once a man like us, which would mean God is not eternal.

    3. They would see Mormonism as teaching that we can become gods.

    4. Whereas most Christians believe in the Trinity, they see Mormonism as teaching that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three separate Gods and that the Son and Spirit are the literal offspring of Heavenly Father and a celestial wife.

My understanding is that Mormonism believes that most Christians are in apostasy and that the only Church that has the truth is, in fact, Mormonism. This would indicate that Mormonism is intolerant of other denominations and do not view the rest of us as being truly Christian.

If these common perceptions are not true then please let us know. We could then discuss the passages in Mormon literature that appear to teach these positions. I hope that would prove interesting and, hopefully, correct any wrong ideas we all might have of each other.

God says "I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst" Hosea 11 :9
Jesus said "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth". John 4:24 "handle me and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have" Luke 24:39

Joseph Smith said "God himself, the Father of us all was once a man like us." (History of the Church, Vol 6, Joseph Smith p 305). "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!" ( Teachings of the Prophet, J. F. Smith p 345). "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as mans" (Doctrines and Covenants 130:22).

Joseph Smith was a false prophet.

Hello, the main problem I have with Mormonism is that it's totally heretical.

Do you have an difficulties with the connection between Joseph Smith and Freemasonry?

I have been a "Mormon" for many years and I find that many christian faiths are strongly against the church and its teachings apart fprm being different I dont know what the issue is.

I've met many Mormons over the years and have yet to meet one on a personal level at least, that I can say with any degree of certainty that I found un-likeable. However from my experience in talking to Mormons, about Jesus, I found that they tend to subtly try to move the conversation from things Jesus said to things that Joseph Smith said. This I do find very unsettling. Christianity is supposed to be centred on Jesus and nobody else. If you are not preaching Christ then you are preaching something else. When you move from Jesus as the focal point of worship to someone else then you are pivoted on a different wheel, which is all fine and dandy if you want to talk about something else but to dress it up with a Christian facade is not being open about what you really want to talk about. Unless Jesus is centre stage, then we are not talking about Christianity. The frame of mind that says "Yes Jesus did say that 'BUT' Joseph Smith says this" doesn't sit well with me at all. Just come preaching Joseph Smith openly, don't start out talking about Jesus unless you are going to continue and end talking about Jesus. Of course this opinion would not be universal as I can only speak for myself. Does this give you any idea of why others might not take to Mormonism too much?

I know south park shouldn't be the source of one's knowledge on the topic but...are the information shown about Joseph Smith and the mormons in this episode true?

We have quite a few Mormons in our neighbourhood. Generally they are fine upstanding citizens withgreat family and moral values.

Beyond that though their theology is quite skewed on their view of 'who Jesus is'.

They claim to be christian because they believe in and trust Jesus, which is fine, but they don't know who Jesus is to trust in Him.
