Jobs for the social good...

I was in the dentist the other day, getting a filling done and had a bit of time to think...People who are in these sorts of professions probably do not want people to take their advice; they would go out of business.

If everyone ate right, there would be no need for nutritionists.
If everyone brushed their teeth correctly, no need for dentists.
If anyones wish of "no disease", no doctors.
In a society with no crime why would there be police?

So while they give us the advice, they really don't want people to take it...Any thoughts or other conspiracys?

If our software worked right and was user-friendly there'd be no need for technical support, which is a bigger earner than the software itself.

Pharmaceutical companies make money by keeping you alive, but still sick. There is no money in curing people.

People don't become Dentists and Doctors because they want to help people. These are status jobs with high salaries. They're also aware that most people are 'tards so they can give good advice knowing you won't follow it.

Probably a bit simplistic; but none the less you do raise a good point with regards law enforcement!

It's often suggested that it's in alot of people's interest that drugs remain illegal. The DEA in America employs 10,000 people directly, there are thousands of police working in the area of drug dealing, there are probably thousands working in airports and ports to ensure no drugs get into the country..... etc.....

If you made drugs legal tomorrow, there'd be alot of people unemployed!!!

Can't say I buy into it, but it's an interesting observation none the less.

Glad "prostitutes" are there for the social good, wouldn't have had that side-splitting thread on Tomangos otherwise.

    \0 High five Weathercheck;)

Not really, except I'd imagine that there'd be a high-rate of unemployment in La-La land.

...that, and cut down on the sweeties.

I know you're just kidding, but I have read studies which showed the more sexual outlets men have (prostitutes, porn, etc.) the less likely they are to commit sexual offences.

So prostitutes are doing some social good! :pac:

Not necissarily, you could chip your teeth on something if you fell. Or even lose them.
Also people have to get teeth taken out before they get braces, so dentists are still needed!!
But you do have a point about advice: They would scold you if your teeth weren't clean and you have cavities or whatever, but secretly they're delighted!!
All those dentists on TV recommending Sensodyne....really they hope you NEVER buy it!!:D

They still have to do administrative work, like signing stuff for passports, age cards etc.

    TD's

I would happily accept a nominal salary of say €104,000 a year tax free to oppress, sorry rule the country.

Not sure about this tbh. Look at this video. The protagonist begins following a woman home, presumably to rape her. Along the way, he passes a sex shop. Instead of going in to make some purchases, he continues following the woman, before getting owned by a guitar solo. Therefore, prostitutes and porn don't prevent rape, rock music does

No, they would merely be employed doing something else.

That's not true, people would just continue ringing tech support to find out where the option is that they are too lazy to search the help file for TBH.

If people weren't lazy and software worked the way it was supposed to then there would be no need for tech support.

Obviously don't work in IT so. Sales are the laziest people in the world when it comes to anything that won't get them commission they just can't be arsed.

I get to the polite people fast ;)

Besides did you ever think that maybe people in Support do other stuff other than supporting you? Support maybe my primary job role but I also do a hell of a lot of other stuff in the department.

You just don't know enough about IT to know what IT people are doing. Either that your you do have a lazy IT department where you work but its most likely the first one because if the IT department was as lazy as you seem to think it is, they'd probably have all got the sack by now.

Believe me it is...probably the only reason they haven't been sacked is because as someone else pointed out, our HR department are clueless. I stand by my original statement regarding the IT department in my company.
