Lower abdominal strain or hernia?

    Hi all-

I'm going to get a doctor to take a look next week, but maybe someone can give me an opinion on this in the meantime:-

I train 4 or 5 days a week, a mixture of activities ranging from running to lifting weights (sometimes quite heavy). Since last saturday or so I've had a quite minor pain below and to the right of my abs, sort of on my belt-line. I can't remember doing anything and thinking 'uh oh that's not good', I more woke up with it IIRC. Initially I thought nothing of it and I trained as normal all of last week, noticing no great problem, just continued discomfort at times.

When I do something like a sit-up or leg raise, or kick with my right leg it is most noticeable. Squatting, bending forward and whatnot feels fine. I've done quite heavy overhead squats and overhead presses since it started and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. If I lean back, though, then I can feel it. Basically, anything which involves recruiting the lower abs or hip flexors seems to bring it on.

I'd expect normal aches and pains to dissapear after a day or two, especially if I take a couple of rest days but this seems to be fairly persistent. The location strikes me as a bit unusual, and after a bit of googling the symptoms seem to fit the bill of either lower abdominal strain or some type of small hernia (although I've got no lump that I can feel, and it doesn't hurt when I bend forward).

I'm not asking for an on-line diagnosis or anything, I appreciate that's not what the forum is for, but does anything have any thoughts?

Sorry mate, but it does pretty much look like you are asking for a diagnosis. Otherwise, I'm not sure what it is you're asking.

I hate locking threads, but we do have to be careful. It's not just to cover ourselves....taking advice/diagnoses from strangers on a message board is not particularly safe for you either.

    Sorry.
