Hi ,i am doing a project and I have found a you tube video. I dont need or want the video but i just want to take audio from the you tube video. Is there any way in which i can split the video so i can just take the audio part and save it as .mp3 /wav etc .

I could just record the audio using a mic but then the quality might not be as good.

You could download the video file and then split the audio stream with a program like virtual dub.

Is virtual dub , easy to work or is it time consuming. What file formats will the music save as??

It's fairly easy in this case, open file then save audio. Saves as mp3/wav/ogg.

Alternatively, try http://vixy.net/. Simply paste the url of the youtube video into the space provided and select audio only from the drop down menu. You can then download the audio to your computer in mp3 format.

Ok, im downloading the videos using Real player gold, but when they come down they are stored as .flv or .ivr( internet video recording ) files. Virtual dub wont open these up for me . what codecs do i need to get.

Only seeing this thread now but it probably would have been easier to use audacity to record the Wave Out Mix. All you do is hit record and then play on the Youtube video. The sound file could then be edited as needed. (a bit late now I hear you say )

Many people want the audio not video from youtube, so they can just enjoy the music on their gadgets. But if you want to extract audio from youtube videos with high quality, you should use some youtube program to help you. Converting audio online will crap the music.
