I got made redundant un-expectantly (quite suddenly but informed with reasonable notice,) from my last job a few months ago, and am having grave difficulty finding work again at the moment. I was held captive un-worried, under the illusion that things would "pick up" again after the Christmas, but those not-so re-assuring words will forever remain engraved to haunt me! I need a few pick-me-ups to get me through these days !! Things are just looking pretty bleak at present and alas it's not promising!

I've been to countless Interviews to date but continuous knock-backs & let-downs eventually do grate on the brain & pull ya down. So it's difficult at these times to remain calm and stress-free and focused on finding work when there doesn't seem to be any.

My field of discipline is in Clerical work and Administration, and my last job lasted .... over 5 years shall we say, not wanting to be too specific! Plus a few more years! In Interviews I have noticed a couple of words popping up, which have now become my Flash-words Dictionary which I add to at a new Interview !! These which I call Flash-words relate to working experience and roles/functions in a job. Which I myself am not experienced in, although I have experience in years I do not have experience in experience !! Bit confusing I well know! But the reason being that I have worked in a Branch Outlet for all this time up to before I lost my job, so ....... I wasn't given any new job responsibilities while I was there, and had a very varied busy role but still did the same thing day in day out. And so by remaining in this one job all this time I did not learn anything new, but only ever had a very basic as such in a way, job description.

Getting back to my Flash-words which keep cropping up in Interviews, these are roles/functions of a job which I would not be experienced in, and would never have covered. Possibly because I was working in a Branch Outlet and so restricted to a basic job description. And it seems Employers don't want to hire people that don't have work experience in all aspects/areas of a job. Like, I could have all the Courses in the world trained in for everything related to this type of work, but I simply amn't fully experienced in all aspects, because my last job position was restricted to working in a Branch Outlet, and very basic.

I just need one Employer to give me a chance, and the opportunity to grow and learn and I've absolutely no problem with further training. But my problem is, there's no job positions to fit this bill! All Office Staff hired are fully experienced in all areas and aspects they need to be trained in. No Employer is going to pay a wage to a "Trainee," if they can find a fully experienced/trained person. So ...... Where do I go from here ..... I'm starting off from scratch with basic restrictive Office Experience even though I have a quite a number of years under my belt, though I'm not a "Fully-trained" person so there-fore Employers are perfectly within their right not to hire me. For eg. I have basic Clerical and Sales Accounts experience, but I don't have Company Book-keeping Accounts Experience.

So ...... what do I do now ..... A Trainee-ship in a Company that would keep me on, and where I could grow and learn all the aspects and areas possible would be just ideal! But there's no such thing as Clerical/Administrator Trainee-ships! A Law/Accountant's Office would be an ideal training-ground to grow, but jobs are hard to come by at the moment any-way. I don't have any formal College Qualification to fall back on, but I do love and enjoy Office Work thoroughly. But as I have just basic Office skills to draw from, even though they may be long years worked to perfection at this stage! I have discovered that this is not good enough when I never covered all aspect/areas involved in this area of work, and the Employer expects me to have more experience. And so I am stuck in a rut! And believe me being stuck in a rut in your late-20s is hell-on-earth! I never thought I'd be job-less at this point in my life! This is supposed to be the time in your life where good things happen, and every-thing works out. But it's the exact opposite! Well bring it on !! Let me have the good years not night-mares of worry !! Anyways, I would like to pursue a Part-time/Evening professional Qualification in some Business Field just to have the education, but right now at the moment my main concentration and priority upper-most in my mind, is getting a Full-time job.

I know FAS do have very good Trainee-ships and Training Courses, but I think that is more geared towards the long-term un-Employed, and no offence but I'm nearly 30, I seriously majorly need to get my life sorted not started !! Plus mainly I'm looking for work/a job rather than mostly training. But if any-one knows any Institution that offers Work/job-based Trainee-ships, please do let me know!

So .... if any-one knows any Employers/Companies hiring "Trainee" Office Persons with the intent of keeping them on in their Company, in the GALWAY CITY AND SUBURBS areas, please do let me know! Email me on justhope@mail.com.

    Yours,
    Dis-illusioned Job-seeker.
