command problem

    when i try to use command it doesn't work ...
    for example if i type "ping/ipconfig" ect.
    it just comes up "ping/ipconfig" is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file,
    any ideas anyone?

    ping/ipconfig isn't a command. If you need IPs, MACs, etc., you can find them all in "ipconfig /all". I've never used ping, but I think it's just "ping IP". You can also use "tracert IP", which shows every router between you and a specified IP...

    it's ping <ip or hostname>
    e.g. 'ping www.boards.ie' or 'ping 89.234.66.107'

    Ipconfig gives you your own IP settings - 'ipconfig /all' to get more details.

    And make sure you run them from the command prompt - if you run it from the Start, Run command a command window will just pop up and disappear.
