Use an external monitor if you have one and have a vga port on the laptop. Failing that you could get a hard drive enclosure. It's a little box that turns an internal hard drive into an external hard drive.

    Thx for your reply

I do external monitor and have a vga port on the laptop but it doesnt work when i plug it in? What do i have to do to use the monitor?

Also with the harddrive enclosure, will this just show up as an extra drive on another pc? can i run applications from it?

    cheers

Theres usually a key combination to output to the external monitor, usually FN+F2 or FN+F5 on the keyboard. Have a look and see is there a little monitor symbol on any of the F1-F12 keys.
The external hard drive will show up as another drive on a pc, you can try and run apllications but I doubt they would work as they would need registration/settings information from the host machines registry (ie.your original laptop, not the donor pc.)

I couldnt get it to work: is the key combo specifically uppercase?

Do i need to logon to windows to use the monitor or will it show from say the windows login screen

    thx

the keyboard combination it's specific to the brand/model of laptop. (Hint.)

    Try Fn+F8 too

Fn is usually a blue Key , F8 are function keys on top row not f,8

actually if you have it all hooked up, you should be able to see boot screen anyway. If not, could be more problems then just the screen.
