    Howdy,

    I have a BT bb a/c with a home@iol.ie email a/c that works fine.

I setup thru BT today a new email address - kids@iol.ie

problem is -I can send an email from kids@ to home@ no problem.

But kids@ (new address) will not receive any emails - from home@ or yahoo etc.
    All the settings seem fine.

    any ideas.

    K

Receive through webmail or to a client?

I'd prefer to get it working fully as the home a/c does.

just don't get why outgoing works but incoming for the new a/c doesn't ??

Are you using webmail or a mail client?

Well if the mail is in your webmail but not your client there must be a setting wrong somewhere in outlook. iol has a webmail interface as far as I know, can you see the mails using that?

Here are some old instructions for setting up IOL mail in outlook express but they will work for newer versions of outlook.

Also - when I try the "test settings" - it works fine.

this option sends a test email to my home@ but not the new kids@ - even though both give a thumbs up.

Are you using the same POP & SMTP settings for both?

yes - same incoming and outgoing pop/mail.iol.ie

It's just strange that I can send an email from kids@ to home@ but cannot receive into kids@ - have checked settings twice.

will ring BT tomorrow and see what they say.

Contacted BT today and have it fixed.

I was using the main a/c's user name and password for the new kids@ a/c.
New email address = same username as email and a password.

The reason I could send mail but not receive them was -
to send a mail does not need verification but to receive emails does.

    thx for the help,

    Isn't that obvious??

I thought that because I owned the BT account it would have to be my main username and password.

But with a new email address within this account - a new username and password were required.

Each email address is to be considered a separate account and hence separate login and password. They're distinctly separate from your billing account.
