i was travelling from dublin to boston with aer lingus last august, we got emmigration down stairs in dublin airport and i got my passport stamped, then b4 boarding the plane i got a phone call from home to saying a family member was very ill so someone from aer lingus brought me out through a different part of the airport, am worried now that u.s customs will think i went over to america and never came back. am planning another holiday this year and i dont want to go and book it incase i get turned in dublin airport, was anyone ever in a similar situation?

Don't know what the story is with the paper work if you did immigration in Dublin but I know a lot of people forget to give in their I94s when coming home so they present themselves in a Garda station and the Guards confirm for US immigration that you are in Ireland

It is also helpful to have a letter from your college/work confirming that you have been present for the last few months and that you intend to return

I'm sure you could prove you never got on the flight. The airline would have a record of who got on the flight and the US airport should have had a record of who got off the flight.
