Edge network speeds O2

I've noticed the Edge access on my (official) iPhone has slowed right down recently. It was very snappy when I got the phone. So good I was wondering what the fuss about 3G was. In town now its practically unusable. If I was cynical I'd say O2 gave extra bandwidth in the first few weeks but have throttled it back now.....

o2 have acquired a 3g solution. I don't know when it will be rolled out.

More like lots more people have bought iphones and are using EDGE. I don't think any other handsets use EDGE other than the iphone. It's tediously slow in the US as well.

It is not just iphones using EDGE. It is used by o2's data customers for their mobile BB service. Also my Motorola K1 uses EDGE. The number of iphones is negligible in the bigger scheme of things.

Oh right. Blackberry data transfer is normally grand on o2. Just how slow is it on an iphone?

Yep. The EDGE speeds are quoted correctly but they are very optimistic. To reach the advertised speeds you need to be standing right next to the mast and you need to be the only one connected to the mast.

This is likely why you have noticed the decrease in speed. More people have got iPhones now which means more people are using the timeslots, slowing down the connection speeds.
