wonder whats going to happen to the irish fishing industry? does anyone care except the actual fishermen? there are hardly any irish men left working on the fishing trawlers in this part of the country its the same all over im sure its mostly phillipno's now even the polish have left. The government isnt doing anything to help but hindering the fishermen at everystep of the way. and i for one am sick to death of it and think its time we got together and did something about it before its too late. Ireland our costal ireland was better off twenty years ago than it is now. no longer can you just go out and catch fish for you dinner you have to have a licence and a fully rigged out boat, rigs costing more than the boat is worth these epirbs are what make me mad cause lately there have been a few boats lost and the epirbs never sent a signal. whats the point of shellign out a few thousand on them if they are not worth the crap and of course you have no way of knowing they dont work till its too late for another fishing crew. the media make a big deal of it when a fishing boat is lost they get a few minutes in the community on the night of the tragedy all agreed terrible disaster sells a few papers and off they go pack up their cameras and forget to ask why it happened, who is responsible, is there a way we can make sure this doen't happen again. no they dont it just seems no one cares.

To be honest most fishing boat accidents are due to bad weather conditions, I don't think blame can be apportioned to anyone really.

think you will find your "statistics" are wrong miss fluff. They can happen on the calmest day that ever was and they often do

I didn't bother reading this article, it was too long, in one big paragraph and the opening line didn't sound as intriguing as a prostitute ring in Portmarnock.

I'm sure it was both intuitive and constructively argued though. :pac:

OP: agreed 100% Not only do they need a license, but they can no longer fish in their usual spot, as X amount of miles from the Irish coast is no longer Irish sea, but Spanish sea, IIRC?

any chances of saving our fishing industry ended the day we joined the EU. they dug their own grave tbh in that they used to under report catches to avoid tax. Because of that no one who had power knew the potential the industry had.

I don't see you doing anything about the millions who die needlessly each day around the world. Why is it that it's more important for people you don't know in your own country to have jobs than it is for people you don't know in other countries to be able to live?

    Get your priorities straight.
