    Hey ,
This new particle accelerator in CERN ?
    how dangerous is this ?
I hear reliable scientists saying that it could create a black hole in the centre
    of the planet !!!

    Yep.
Now have a nice day :)

PS. What does "reliable scientists" actually mean to you? Give us some names (and not just one or two names, but more like 10 names). Have they published their findings in a well respected peer-reviewed journal?

Well i read it in a spanish newspaper ..
    can't remember the names,
They can't even see inside a BH no radiation escapes from it, all they know
about it is theory .. and to create these here on Earth is just stupid ..

    asking for trouble ..

I'm with you man, I'm totally concerned myself. Do we really want to mess with our universe like this? I mean, we have to live here! First it was the atomic bomb and now this, are we really that blind? I'm more worried that this thing they'll create will open up a "gateway" (for want of a better word) into into parallel universes, vis-à-vis the multiverse theory of physical cosmology. I would totally be freaked if I met a better, more successful version of myself.

That what you're talking about? Apparently if Hawking's theory isn't quite right, we r teh doomz0red.

Yes, they could possibly create a micro black hole, but in all probability it wont have enough mass to grow and will just dissipate.

Others believe that if any light gets into the experiment that the black hole will start feeding off of the photons and grow out of control.

I personally don't think there is anything to worry about, even if it did create a black hole, we wouldn't know anything about it because we would be instantly sucked into oblivion.

The atomic bomb was pushed into creation by the military, but the idea was conceived by people trying to understand the nature of reality, in doing this they have partially unlocked the secrets of the atom.

I personally think its amazing that an infinite amount of atoms can come together in such a way to create a being that asks the question, what are atoms? how do they work? and why is it that they act like waves we're not looking and particles when we are?

I feel if we don't ask more questions and carry out more experiments then as a race we will stagnate, we wont move forward, we wont grow and we wont learn.

There are a number of good documentaries on the subject (a few BBC horizon episodes) and also a couple of good books e.g. "in search of super strings", if you are interested in quantum mechanics, when you fully understand what is going on you might end up being scared of what reality is more than the creation of a micro black hole.

There is no risk of such things happening. (according to CERN!!)

    dont believe cern

this is pretty much the end of days.

give up all your posessions whilst you can. blessed are the meek and all that

I'd imagine that you're much, much, much more likely to die in a car crash than to die from an accident created by CERN.
Moral: If you fear CERN, then you probably shouldn't be driving a car!

I for one hope that the stranglets get produced, cause a run away flip flopping of all particles

In this new topsy turvey universe, I will be king

Before the 1st hydrogen bomb, some people did think it would cause a chain reaction with the hydrogen in the air. Guess what? we are all still here:D

There were worries from some about it igniting the Nitrogen in the atmosphere (not hydrogen). Turned out to be theoretically (and experimentally!) baseless though.

pfft, black holes...just the americans are jealous cos we europeans are gonna solve the mysteries of the universe first...and find the higgs boson:) one of the most important particles ever...
If they're looking into a split second or so after the big bang...cutting out the scientific stuff...i'd be more worried about a mini big bang!
'cos black holes grow slowly, and only really are small things on the universal scale...but a big bang, well they grow! but that wouldn't happen...
A black hole would be cool though...

They're going to get a nasty shock when they find out the Higg's boson is invisible.

The LHC will ultimately prove to be as 'scientific' as the philosopher's stone.

Chasing their own tails they are.

I'm glad we have this on record :D

They are running the LHC at 7TeV for a year to gather a load of data, then they are taking apart and replacing all of the "interconnects" so that in 2013 they'll have the LHC running at 14TeV.

So yeah, we're talking a while before they find the way to Voldemorts secret lair but it gives some of us a chance to learn all of the math behind the amazing theory still known as the Higgs Boson so that we'll fully and empirically appreciate the "m" in F=ma :p

'm' will not be resolved by the agency of the 'standard model' approach.
If the LHC makes this clear it will be a disappointment for them but a success of sorts also.
