I've got a MAG300, very popular and reliable bass amp. I'd definitely go for the Ashdown.

I agree. I also have the MAG300 combo and find it a great amp in that price range. I got mine from www.dolphinmusic.co.uk

For that combo they were as cheap as Thomann.

Theres a nice deep sound out of the BA115s but a 4x10" mag 300 beats the pants off it.

Another one for the Mag 300. I have the Mag 300H head with a 4x10 cab and its great. I think Thomann have a bundle with the Evo 2 version for about €555

I've used Mag combos before, did not think highly of them. I went for the Ashdown Evo2 head with the compact cabs, much better imho.

Just think the tone and speakers on the MAG stuff ain't great.

If you mean you went with the ABM head + cab well then yeah, they should be much better. They cost twice as much.

Yeah i do, but not as dear as some of the 2nd hand units on adverts.

I don't like the MAGs generally, they feel/sound sort of lifeless to me. But I haven't tried that particular Ampeg so I couldn't compare. It's probably much of a muchness tbh. I'd take a 4x10 over a 1x15 anyway.

    I have the BA 115!!
I gig with it regularly. Great amp. You can get real nice tones from it, and it has a built in Di in the line out, so you can go straight out of the amp into a mixer without a separate di,(which is what i do) and it sounds great considering the price of it. You won't get a better quality combo at this price than the ba 115.
I'l prob upgrade to the valve version of this later on.
I've used the ashdown, and it's decent yeah you wouldnt go wrong with it, but the ampeg is quality.

Id go for one of the ashdowns, had the mag series myself for years before i upgraded to the klystron and i NEVER once had a problem. It also has the D.I. just like the ampeg but with a nicer more flexible tone.

The one thing i say is ashdown customer service arent my favorite group of people in the world but my new ashdown is the only one i have ever even heard about breaking down so i doubt youl have to deal with em.

Personally id go for the 4X10 model, it can be a bastard carrying it around and wont be much louder than the 1X15 but itl cut through a lot easier if your not micing up at gigs. If you are though id recommend the 1X15 as its got a boomier punchier tone.
