now bertie's gone and cowen is in, how will that effect gormley. cowen being a country lad is he more likely to rein in gormley and his sly attacks on the hunting community? will cowen be good or bad for hunters?

Lets hope that he does rein in the Greens, gormley has had far too much of the podium upto now, we do need a bit of "country" but back into the dail, and cowen should not forget his roots!

Brian Cowen has been in MNSCI a couple of times, I think he officially opened a range there.

well i'd say bertie couldnt really rock the boat with anyone cos he needed people to stay on side but hopefully cowen will put gormley back in his place.

Reckon Gormey is just the same as the rest, once in Mercs&Perks[eco diesel mod of course:rolleyes:]
Threw a token bone to the anti supporters, tried to restrict stag hunting, and is now in a high court challenge, left coursing alone[proably told how many big boy FF course and how much money is involved]. Is now being snowed under by ICABS busily letter writing to him about saving foxes and mink.[Guess how much effect that is having on him trying to get us to change our light bulbs:rolleyes:]
All in all,he is in a precarious position to do much of anything without pissing off somone. What with Tara, the powerplant in Dublin, effing up the motor tax revenue, poisionous CFL lightbulbs. So when in Irish politics best course when controversy arises is;mumble anbout doing somthing, and do nothing.

What are the odds on Biffo giving Willie the job in Justice and the current
Minister getting shunted up the line as he seems destined for greater things, like Finance!

Posters of Willie holding that gun with a wicket smile are all over the outskirts of Limrick warning off Criminals with evil intent. He would be the right man for the job and will get my vote:)

Wouldn't be a great thing for us if that happened - Willie was the one who told us pistols were too dangerous for civilians to have a few years back when he was Minister for State.

Gormley, John think about that for 10 seconds then run for cover.

Willie on Foreign Affairs, nice follow up from Defence and Dundalk man either in Justice or Finance. Depending of course on Lenihans preference..And the Greens and Harney a boot up their backsides for their show of loyalty towards Bertie...

All speculation aside, personally I don't find it a bad idea having a country lad in Justice or in the top spot when it comes to facilitating shooting and hunting. Chances are that : 1) they have some general knowledge of firearms as they probably have or had one or more themselves or at least the da or an uncle had a shotgun or a rifle. 2) they're no stranger to country sports and won't be as likely to refer to shooting and other forms of hunting as "bloodsports" that have to be banned at all cost. Even if their personal sentiment would be anti-hunting a lot of the constituants wouldn't share that opinion and so far votes are still the going currency.

Yeah, they're only for Ministers for Defence, and then can only be used on approved photo shoots, as defined by the 1925 Firearms Act.

As he is me local TD.I have bent his ear abit ,and he is actually willing to try pistol shooting himself after his infamous pic.Intresting to hear his take on what happened too.I asked him about that statement of pistols being much too dangerous for civvies. He has stated to me that it was a case of opening gob, without knowing all the facts at the time.
    [Well DUHHHHHH:rolleyes:]
He has also stated that on restricted firearms and army range useage by civvies,it would be really nice if the DOJ had mentioned this to him as there could be things done on usage...
Not sounding like a man who is too anti gun... But then again being a politican???

That's not a habit I'd like my MoJ to have, thanks all the same.

From what I've heard from those who'd have more on-the-ground knowlege than the Minister, that's something that he'd later come to class as opening gob without knowing all the facts at the time. There are a lot of reasons why we'll not see civilian shooters using military ranges in this country any time in the foreseeable future.
