My course will soon have 27 holes and I was wondering how the stroke index will work! The course will not have an extra nine holes but rather all 27 will be playable as different loops of 18!

Would the club need to produce 3 different cards with the indices set for each 18 or what? How does it work at other courses???

I'd say that's what will happen. You'll have something like they have at Donabate. Check out their site for an idea.

Royal Tara has 27 holes and you can play a mix and match of any of the 3. They have a red, blue and yellow. Red and blue are the main ones but you can play any mix. They have one scorecard with all 3 on it. The Yellow have all odd number indexes, Blue all even number indexes. The Red has 2 sets of indexes - if you are playing with the Blue, the indexes are odd and if you are playing with the Yellow, the indexes are even. That make sense? Probably not so...

Thanks for the replies - one card would make sense - with one of the nines carrying double indices like Royal Tara!

There will obviously be a period of adjustment too until people get used to the new layouts and the course finds its natural level with the membership!

Do they really let you play whatever mix you want?
We have 24 holes, in winter there are 2x12 and in the summer there are only ever 18 in play, but they can mix and match which 18.

I dont see how you could have different people playing 3 different groups of nine? Would it not cause lots of hassle with people cutting in the whole time?
Id have assumed on a given day they have their "18" and the other 9 are not part of that days course...

We are still in construction so the 27 won't be all in play until 2010 - however, it would appear that there will be 18 in play each day and the other nine available for members!

In any event my question was about distributing the indices across the 27 holes depending on which 18 are in play! The Tara solution sounds the best.

On a side note, I was trawling around the club websites for this info and it's amazing how many clubs do not have their course layout or scorecard on their website!!!

Ours is the same, you can casually play whatever 6 are not in play on that day.
We have a different card depending on the course (2 main cards)
