Best Ripped Jeans - 80's/90's/00's???

Out for drinks with work mates last night. One of the gals had on jeans with rips across the knees which led to a rather fascinating discussion amongst the group as to what was the coolest ripped jeans era. Like a chronology of fashion nightmares, we had advocates for brosette jeans, heavy metal shredded jeans, grungey 501s, and, worringly, patch-worked jeans (WTF??).

Personally (and showing my age now!), I was a fan of grunged up jeans. Faded all over, holes in the knees and the shredding along the thigh - I thought they were the business! Had 3-4 pairs between ‘94 and ‘96 I reckon. I’m sure I kept one pair in my closet when I moved out too for sentimental reasons…awww

What was your favourite ripped jeans area? What were your ones like?

    We need pics!

What are the 00 ones like?

I've seen some with slashed arses and underwear showing through.

My fella has a couple of pairs that are unintentionally ripped and has caused great embarrassment on some occasions. ;)

    'Best' ripped jeans?

    I prefer 'least-hideous'. :)

Think "least hideous" just about sums it up really. Most of the posse who admitted to wearing them did so with a bit of a cringe on their faces :)

No pics just yet, DK, but we've decided to mount a wall of shame in the office for staff to put up pics of their fashion disasters

00 jeans are the ones you see around town now - the River Island/A & F ones that everyone seems to have.

On the subject of slashed arses, I recall that the now style guru and fashion makeover presenter Caroline Morahan was fond of wearing jeans with big slits acrosss the back of her jeans while she was a student. I'm sure she didn'y mention that in her Off The rails audition ;)

I'm wearing a pair of ripped jeans now! They're Road baggies and came with patched holes. However, time means that there are holes around the pocket (caused by my wallet, presumably), 2 small ones around my arse pockets, and a big one just underneath my crotch (need to be careful with how i sit in public). I love them, theyre comfortable, but they started to look daft a long time ago. If only I wasn't a poor student...

Unless your jeans were ripped sliding across a stage on your knees after a rockin' guitar solo, then they're not ripped jeans at all. :D

Not sure if anyone can lay claim to having ripped their jeans as in Leah K's post but I preferred when ripped jeans were a bit more rock and roll than they are today. They all have the same bit of wear and tear and are a bit boring really.

Buy normal jeans and wear them. They will eventually rip. You've just saved a fortune. :p Ripped jeans are never, ever, ever cool. They might be trendy for a month, but you can't polish a turd. They look like sh1t.

    RIPPED JEANS.
    Ripped jeans back in 80/90,s

I think back then it wasn't just ripped it was patched up reworked jeans, A time when people began to hit back and become people who wanted to stand out from the norm. Dress style at the forefront,
Back then jeans were classed as working wear, not formal dress code. But people wanted to be diffrent and jeans became every day wear,The more socity did to try and surpress this casual look, the more defiant people became, Rock and roll played a big part in dress code, as showen in previous post here ( Photos ), jeans were worn harder, ripps tears fadeing all making a roll.
I can clearly remember walking down king rd london, in 90,s, Dressed in a pair off my faded out well worn levis 501,s shrink to fit jeans, skin tight, People wearing tight worn jeans, some were skin tight all way down legs, some wearing bell bottom jeans,
There must have been 12-20 shops selling second hand levis, people going in browsing through racks of used jeans, Some shops also had other jeans made items like coats, jackets hats, all made from old jeans in patchwork, the main theam was worn denim.
I got to the end of the street and there place called the garage was like a denim warehouse. thousands pairs of old worn out jeans, some with just hard wear some with rips in, flying of the racks.
Just a little further on i came across a shop called american classics, in fact they had 3 small shops, in the window of one shop were levis second hand but in good condition, one shop was full other items like flying jacket tops etc, the 3rd shop all you could see in the window was heaps of well faded worn out threadbear levis.some on dummys some laying flat. I went in on the ground level were racks of old worn faded levis, some with holes and ripps, but nothing that worn only knees ripped etc, as i looked around a guy said as he say me looking at the worn condition said if your looking for harder more worn there down in the basement. I went down there was loads people rummaging through piles apon piles of trashed ripped and torn levis, Levis stacked up in piles by waist size, there were two changing rooms down there, and people were trying jeans on and showing there friends them on. One guy came out in a apair so tight and trashed his arse hung out under the back pockets the legs were treadbare knees out with lots hanging cotton threads.and to be honest dont think it would be hard to say a danger on something hanging out off them. his 2 mates also found likewise jeans and pulled on.
After some time these 3 guys walked upstairs in them, carrying there jeans they had been wearing when they went in there.
The sight of these hot worn jeans was so hot that i also followed them wearing a pair likewise.carrying my pair i was wearing when i walked in and two other pairs i had tried on .
The 3 guys had just paid and was leaving the shop.as i likewise paid and walked out in the trashed ripped to f##k levis.
at first i was a little worried, but i followed these guys up the road wearing theres and noticed people looking at them and smileing,at them i felt fine,in them.

I have an old pair of Diesel jeans, both knees went through due to age. So they ripped naturally. OK to wear? I used to wear them the odd day in the summer, rolled up with flip flops as it was more casual looking.
