i've never seen 6400ASA film, but i believe delta 3200 can be pushed readily enough.

I've used Agfa 3200 colour film, grainy as hell as you'd expect, but like Magic above I've never seen a 6400 film.

EDIT Click here for samples of delta 3200 rated at 6400. They're all the B&W band ones obviously.

    Cool, ill check it out

7dayshop only do up to 1600, so even some 3200 would do me grand

Gunnes used to do Ilford Delta 3200 film, BW of course. I've pushed this film as far as 25,600 ISO before and got reasonable results (shooting bands with zero flash in dimly lit venues). alot of thing looking negs but then again it was dark. It's fine at 6400 ISO (its rated to be pushed to that) and ok at 12,800 ISO where I normally pushed it to. I'd recommend Kodak TX (or is it Tmax developer?) when processing. Add about 1/3 of the processing time cumulatively on for each stop you push it and it should be ok.
Kodak do a 3200 ISO BW film but avoid it, I think its actually rated at ISO 1200 or something and designed to be pushed to 3200 ISO so its not much use after 3200. I have pusehd the Kodak to 6400 once or twice but its like an image made up of grains of sand. The Ilford Delta on the other hand has smooth flowing grain which gives really good tones.

Ilford Delta 3200's true speed is also around ISO1000 to 1200.

    kodak tri-x 400 shot at 6400:

It wasn't a universally successful experiment though
If you're looking for B&W I'd try Delta 3200 or TMax 3200 as pointed out above, They attract differing opinions from what I've seen, different people like and dislike them. TMax is hugely expensive though, about 12 euros a roll ...

If you want color I'd get Kodak Portra 800 somewhere if you can find it (dunno whether or not its actually possible to buy it retail anywhere in Dublin) and push it to 1600 if needs be. I find it considerably superior to any of the fast fuji films in terms of grain, colour, and scannability.
Ilford Delta 3200's true speed is also around ISO1000 to 1200

Yeah I believe this is the case for both of them. I think the thing is that when shot at their respective 'true' speeds they're completely lacking in contrast. They're designed to be pushed and not just go completely nuts on contrast as a normal film would.

how is neopan 1600 for pushing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,944 ✭✭✭pete4130

fuji Neopan 1600 is ok at 3200, but the Ilford Delta 3200 is far better again. I've pushed the 1600 newpoan to 6400 but wasn't too impressed with it.
