    Hope someone here knows

I'm currently interviewing for another job, if i get it i was wondering what the story is with holiday time.

i have about 3 weeks to take for the rest of the year with my current employer, will i have to take that time off if i hand in my notice? can i get paid? how does it work?

You won't have any time left for the rest of the year if you leave. You are only entitled to the annual leave you have worked up so far.
For example, the statutory leave is 20 days per year. If you leave the company half way through the year you are only entitled to roughly 10 days leave for that year.

If you do have leave that you are entitled to and haven't taken then it is usual to get paid for it in your last pay cheque. Some eomployers will allow you to use it as part of your notice period but they don't have to allow this and many don't.

If you're on 20 days a year and used 5 already, you're pretty much even so far. You may work up one more day or so during your notice period, which as BC says may be added to your payslip - but when there's one day in it, they may just let you finish a day early.

If you're lucky, they may let you go immediately and give you a month's wages (or whatever your notice period is).
