    Hi
    I have a 72->77 ring and a 77mm CPL
    they are together and I've done all I can think of to get them apart
    I've tried the rubber band but no joy

    This is a tough one ... but sometimes it can be because the filters have become not quite a perfect circle (slightly oblong) ... so that there is excessive pressure being exerted as some parts of the circumference push outward and others sag inward ... you'd be surprised how little off shape it takes to jam a filter ... try to examine closely for evidence of this and if you see it you need to apply pressure in the long axis of the oblong ... careful use of a pliers on one side can do the trick ... but be very careful this can also cause damage ... if it comes to it the stepper is the most expendable ...

    Steaming them? But they are both metal rings right? So that might not work...

    it could well be deformation
    it has been wedged into a cokin p case to avoid rattling in my bag
    I'll leave it flat and no presures overnight and will try the gloves (again) and wd-40 in the morning

    thanks for your help

    Lubricate all threads with graphite - just some soft pencil should do the job.

    easy answer that works.

    take the lens off the camera, and hold a show with a rubber sole in one hand, like a converse, and then holding the lens very tight in the other hand, rub the filter in the right direction on the sole of the shoe and voila

    works for me every time, and i read it on some old pros website

    :)
    I'll give it a go
    it sounds odd but I have to agree that it may work, I only have to get hold of the step up ring in some way...

    I've got them apart and both in perfect conditions
    a combination of wd-40, a rubber can opener (one of those that grips the lid of a marmelade jar) and a lot of elbow grease did the trick
    thanks!
