Thinking of becoming a teacher

I'm 35 at this stage and have lots of Computer experience, not too hot on Irish.

Just wondering hwo i would go about becoming a teacher and also what the likely starting rate would be for me.

Have a degree and HDIP (but not in education).

Pay scale seems to start around 33k which would be a drop in income for me.

    Any thoughts appreciated

well basically you need to do a h.dip in primary education! you need a c3 in higher level leaving cert irish and a relevant degree to access this course as far as i no. alternatively you could do a pcge course in the uk but then you would have to do an exam in professional irish! I thinik st. pats drumcondra, marino and froebel college all over this h.dip. best of luck its a great career move, ya got to love that sort of of time:)

Is it primary of secondary you're interested in?

If primary then you don't need relevant degree, but you do need AN honours degree & you do need a C3 in HL Irish. I'm 6 weeks away from my Irish exams, as I too, after many years in IT decided to pack it all in to become a teacher.
