New LCD woes

    Hi everyone,

I just bought a LG 32 inch LCD TV to replace my failing CRT. I got it yesterday and last night I noticed that the screen looked to be delayed in redrawing. It was particularly bad during the film Flightplan on RTE1. When the characters spoke in closeup their whole face became a blur. I have not seen this happen with TV programs (yet) :)

I am using Sky+ and using a good quality SCART lead. Are there any reasons this might be happening?

    Thanks in advance

Unfortunately Cormic this is one of the many drawbacks of the new technology, sometimes it just isn't as good with standard def material.

Using Sky, you should be able to get a decent enough picture. I would recommend you have a good go at tweaking the settings trying to find a good solution for you.

If you have a THX DVD (any Star Wars will do) there's a calibration section on these that helps a good bit.

Also look for your model on www.avforums.com, they have threads there with recommended settings for many TVs, some of them can make a huge difference

Thanks for your responses stevenmu and johnnyflav. I followed the link from stevenmu and found the following page...

    http://www.lyris-lite.net/quick_and_dirty_tv_setup.html

Section two talks about Noise Reduction and as soon as I disabled this it all started looking much better.

I still need to go through the rest of the page and get my settings perfect.

    Thanks again for your help.

As a general rule, most processing and image 'enhancement' features actually make the picture worse, they're really just there for marketing purposes. Usually it's best to just turn them off.
