Cruelty to children...

I was thinking back to my childhood and remembering all the cruel things my brother and sisters used to do to me. I was the youngest by 8 years and they did some terrible things.

When my mam and dad were out, they once put my brother in the wardrobe and then put me up to bed and warned me not to get out of the bed or they would tell me ma,

Anyhow I was lying in the bed, and I heard scratching coming from the wardrobe, I was terrified in the bed crying, but more afraid of what my sisters would do if I got out of the bed, After about 10 mins of this scratching my brother burst out of the wardrobe and jump on me bed, (Dressed in a gabradine.) I think I wet myself.

Anyone else have the same sort of family? Or was I just a lucky one?

I think most families are like that. I know mine is, the only difference is i'm the older brother in the family soi'm generally the instigator.

My favorite (never gets old) -
My room is alongside an alleyway down to one of our sheds which during winter nights is completely pitch black. If anyone has to go to the shed to get anything (storage & chest freezer) they have to pass my room. So I often hear my sister passing out bragging to younger cousins etc that she's not afraid of darkness and she's seen so many horror films. Off go the lights in the room, window partially open, wait until they're close and then burst out the window screaming.

Cue fears and tears from her and laughing from me and the other brother.

You think it would get old at this age :(

When i was a kid i knocked my brother out with a shovel.

I hope you have paid them back by now??? At least tell them the story, cry out and make them feel terrible about it now that they are grown up.....

im the youngest by almost 9 years and have a brother and 2 sisters

when i was young and weak my sisters used to sit on me to stop me moving while my brother sat on my face and farted repeatedly.very unpleasant circumstances but it had to be done cause i was the youngest and it was pretty much the law

    Excellent :D

I was once bent over tying my shoelace when my sister swung a hefty physics textbook into my ballsack from behind. All strength drained from my body and I fell to the ground whining like a snared animal. Twasn't nice.

I've only one younger brother who I used to terrorise when we were kids, now he's not only taller than me, but he also goes to the gym 5 days a week and I wouldn't think of messing with him now.

Used to sit on my little brothers chest and grab his head and shake it back and forth while calling our dog. Dog would come running and being a puppy at the time it would go berserk snapping at his head.

In my defence it was very, very funny to look at.

Caught my brother jerking off once when i was a kid. Blackmailed him into buying me sweets whenever i wanted them so i wouldnt tell anyone. He finally snapped, told my parents all about it in a flood of tears and my Dad granted him permission to kick the sh*t out of me. I deserved it :o

As the youngest I was treated pretty well as a youngster but my brother and I used to have some pretty rough dust up's. A key memory would be the time he goaded me so much I attacked him with a butchers knife, also the time I chased him up the stairs with a 5ft long shelving pole, when he ran into my sisters room I proceeded to ram it through the door several times in an effort to skewer him. All of this was in defense of my own sanity.

It's the little things I remember... Like when it snowed, being pinned to the ground and having snow shoved down my top :D

When i was about 4 my sister threw a poker from a fire acroos the room and hit me in the back of the head (Crocodile Dundee Style), knocked me clean out!! My other sister nearly dropped a snooker table on me, landed 6 inches from my head.

We treated our younger brother fairly well apart from trying different wrestling moves on him but even then we weren't rough (at that time they didn't put warnings on the telly..either that or it made us try it out even more). :)

I used to tell my brother, mid-fight, that because I'd be 18 first, and therefore an adult, I was going to call the Dundrum Mental Asylum and have him locked up for life in a padded room. He was absolutely distraught any time I brought it up.

Convinced him he was adopted before and even still bring it up the odd time to this day.

Split his forehead open by accident when we were much younger and he had a scar throughout most of his childhood and early teens, then it kind of faded away.

He got me back one time by swinging a 15 foot pole straight into my head, horrible experience.

    Alls good now though.

I was always pretty nice to my brother. The worst myself and my sister did to him was dress him as a girl, and put his blankie on his head and call him Sister Mary. Then we took photos which will be used when he has a girlfriend.

My sisters used to do that to me too, though mostly they just held pretend weddings where I would get married to the little girl next who was around the same age.

my older brother and sister did some *grim* things to me and my little sister anytime our ma went somewhere and we were left alone with them. to name a few:

batter us and use 'pressure points' (i.e. one knuckle jammed somewhere sore like ur temple or spine)

hang us over the stairs by the ankles

tell us we were adopted and our ma was gone to get someone to take us away

get my da's shotgun from where it was 'hidden' at top of the wardobe and point it at us- make us say our prayers and final words

they really were evil little fuks.. they'd have waterboarded us if they knew how.

actually, next time i see my brother i'm going to punch his face in.

My sister also used to come into the bedroom with cucumbers on her eyes, with the carving knife in her hand saying.

"I'm going to kill you," Repeatedly....

That leaves a lasting impression when you are around the 4-5 age.

Yeah to be honest now that we're all grown up all my siblings get along famously. This kind of stuff is the main staple of conversation in our infrequent family gatherings, it's really quite comforting when you have people whom you've shared your childhood with.

My parents were actually quite cruel to my younger sister. They told a story once about how they used to hear her little feet walking through the kitchen to come upstairs to them having gotten out of her cot. The girl was distraught at the thought that my parents put her in a room on her own downstairs while the older (read favourite) child (me) got to sleep in the room next to hers.

When my older sister was 2ish my parents ordered a take away and told her they were ordering for her to be taken away. When I was about 2 she told me the same thing and when my brother was about 2 i did it to him... very funny reactions!

Theres been loads of little things like this in my family

Older sister dressed me up as a nurse when i was 3 and took pictures and gave the picture to my friend ( i still have the picture, it's on my fridge)

My younger brother waited for over an hour out the back with a stick the length of him for me to wander out and get his revenge for locking him out the back. He got his revenge... on my face.

I used to always awaken my little brother with leather face mask i had by screaming as high as i could and throwing water on him.

My sister and her friend cling filmed me to my matress and flipped it upside down with me still stuck to it and left me like that for the night.

Once when it snowed i hid a piece of dog poop in a snow ball and rubbed it into my sisters hair... i got it on my hand too...

    Thats all i can remember...

Ew... I don't like hearing about sibling cruelty. I think it's really disturbing - even when the people who experienced it are all grown up and laughing about it now.
There have been a couple of threads on Personal Issues started by people who are putting up with dreadful bullying by siblings. Yet somehow it's considered more acceptable cos it's not by parents...

Obviously I'm not talking about the "you're adopted" and run-of-the-mill horseplay stuff - I think most of us will experience that - but the sheer violence some people are so blasé about (either as victims or instigators) -
I remember this very topic was discussed on the Ray D'arcy show and one person (think it was a guy) sent in an email about how his siblings would handcuff him to an electric fence - a metal handcuff, so shock after shock would go through him. One time he managed to get his hand free so they punched him repeatedly in the arm until he got "dead arm" then they handcuffed him to the fence again, only this time he was physically unable to move his hand. At that point Ray got serious...

I have four sisters and two brothers, I've worn everything from stiches to slings, no broken bones though. most were accidental from rough play although I had a brother who thought he was bruce lee. kicked him in the nuts once and laid him out.

Reading this thread, I'm wondering if ye all had input on the script for Malcolm in the middle?:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,031 ✭✭✭Lockstep

I grew up as the second one in a family of four.
    Some of the tamer stuff:
We tied my little brother to the end of his bunkbed (so he was still standing up) and then we left a chocolate sandwich JUST out of his reach, then going downstairs to watch TV and forgeting about him.

Telling him he was adopted from Gypsys in Toys R Us (He cried)

GOading him till he threw a knife at me.

    Etc etc.

A lot of people from small families seem to think Malcolm in the Middle is bollocks but TBH the whole dynamic is incredibly close to real large families (fights, leftovers, necessary parental tyranny but run through by a sense of clumsy love, if anyones seen the scene where the boys save Lois all the coconut chocolates from boxes then they'll get a good idea)

If a kid inflicts horrible violence and torture on their siblings they should be brought somewhere for professional help.

I've 3 sisters one of which was really, really mean to me for the first 20 years of my life. She used to lock me in the shed for hours cause she knew I was petrified of spiders. When I reached my teenage years she stepped it up a notch, the worst being the night she got a heap of tampons, covered them in tomato ketchup and filled my bed with them. She told me she'd been saving up her used ones for months and I believed her  Another time she found fags I'd hidden and I came home to find lit cigs sticking out of the mouths of every poster in my room!

I once threw a rather large rock at my brother. It went slightly off on purpose, only thing is that at that moment he dived into the path of it, striking him in the chest.

    Silly bugger.

One morning at like 7, my brother and sister burst into my room saying that it was Christmas and that I had been in a coma for months. It was March.

I can't really remember any specifics. I was the youngest of four boys, so much of the time it was just beatings and general physical violence. Nothing serious mind - I never ended up with bruises or broken bones.

I'm a good 4 years younger than my elder brother, and the two middle brothers are barely a year apart, so most of their energy was spent on battering the **** out of eachother.

We did spend an awful lot of time just winding eachother up though to the point of exploding.

The spread of ages is roughly equivalent to Malcolm in the Middle, so we can relate to many of the stories in it :D
