Having discussed making the plunge into the PS3 market and getting the GT 5 pack, it reminded me of the original Gran Turismo that came out on the PS1. It really set the standard at the time and the graphics were mind blowing. I did a quick check on YouTube and found the following:

If you did play the original GT, this is sure to give some goosebumps.

Oh the memories, when i saw the thread title that song popped into my head. My favourite remix ever. Only ever heard it in GT (sold me on the game too :))

Ill be back playing this again shortly after I managed to get a boxed original PSX with 20 games (GT included!) for only 90 euro delivered!!

This really was the be all and end all at the time, great game!

Ahhh the game that launched the Skyline onto the general public. Man I had such good times with Gran Turismo, rocketing around the opening tracks in a souped up Civic! Quality game and it had better graphics than it's sequel.

The four speed, I remember it well, worked great in manual

Oh how well I remember working my ass off to get my S class license (whichever was highest) and then there was a powercut and I lost it all! Couldn't look at the game for about a month.

It took me YEARS to find that track from the titles of GranTurismo, I bought the soundtrack album of the game, not there, I bought the album by the Manics, not there either, then I finally found it on the CD single of Everything Must Go, and its the Chemical Bros remix, so now I can listen to it whenever I like, I think I'll go and have a listen now!

But it was a great time to be a gamer, the PS had the world in the palm of it's hand, with this and Driver little could touch it.
And popping this game into the drive for the first time and finally playing it, wow, I never knew games could be like this, and we were never satisfied with mere arcade racers again. Rage Racer not withstanding of course!

yeah the four speed one! it was great it wouldn't take corners but was great, i also had the full kitted out Mits GTO, not alot would beat it.

Yeah them were the days where the PS kicked anything out there

I won a PS1 on Ian Dempsey's show years ago. they included 10 games as well, so I thought it was a brilliant prize anyway. Then GT arrived in the Games bundle, and I was smitten. Eventually topped it with a 4WD Porsche with every conceivable add-on.

Oops silly me, it wasn't a Porsche, it was a RUF.

I think bar GTA and FF7 this is where most of my time went. I think i was 13 when my mate got it(the only one with a PSX), myself and another lad stayed over every night playing it for hours straight. Favourite car was the Castrol FTO or the Viper. Think i might hook up my PS2 tomorrow and play it for a while. How has it aged?
