Ok so i have a little dilema, I'm working as On the IT service desk for a well known bank in dublin and have been here for about 7 months, The thing is i'm first level and im getting asked questions by second level people all the time about certain issues which most of the time i know.
The second level people are more or less second level cause they have been working for the company longer than me, I brought it up with my manager that i think i should be classed as 2nd level and she agreed but said the position needs to be made available first, it doesnt make sense that someone be paid thousands more a year than me when i know alot more than them, do you think i should just start looking for a new job somewhere else or wait?

I would recommend trying to stick it out until you get your promotion especially if your manager agrees with you. If you start a new job you will more than likely be at the bottom of the ladder and have to work your way up again.

Also I will say it depends if this is a career you see yourself doing for the long term. If you would like this as a long term career then stick at it. But I suppose if you dont see yourself staying their then you might be best getting a new job. Just a thought

if you like working there and that is the only issue then wait until you have been there the year. it looks bad having any job under a year on your CV, and as another poster said you will go into a new company and start at the bottom of the ladder again, which would defeat the purpose of moving jobs in the first place. your present employer probably has budget for x amount of 2nd level support so that is what they cant just make you 2nd level becuase you know how, there has to be an open position. also there might be enough 2nd level to deal with the customers demands so they dont need to pay another.

why dont you put out some feelers and see if anyone is leaving anytime soon? that would mean their positions would become available.

Hey, do you work in aib?

Most banks have a promotion system, it's all done by the books also hard to negotiate salaries at reviews :) best bet is wait until a position comes up or look for second level support in other areas of the bank or get a new job
