    Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an Apple TV.

Could someone tell me is it possible to store your entire iTunes library on the Apple TV or do you have to constantly stream the music?

I stream to my xbox 360 from my mac using connect 360, there's never been a stutter or a cough on a .g network (mac is wireless, 360 is wired to router). So I wouldn't be worried about streaming.

You see the problem is I'd be streaming from my laptop. So, if I'm not around none of the family would be able to listen to music on the Apple TV. There'd be no point in getting it unless I could store all the music on it!

Yes being the short answer 40gb or 120gb drives and eminently hackable.

You don't need to hack it to store the music on the hard drive.
Yes it's possible to do so, not for 100% of the time (there are time outs so you can't sync your friends libraries for ever), but the short answer is yes

Great, it's only my own library that I need to sync so friends libraries don't ome into the equation!!

    Thanks for the help lads!

Yep, but that's where VisualHub comes in. Re-encode everything :)

Says the man that has a dirty big Power Mac :p:p

I still shudder to think how long it'd take to Re-encode all my divx vids....

Simple other question: setting up new Apple TV tomorrow in friend's house. How does it connect to existing WPA-protected wifi network? Is there an onscreen keyboard?

Can the AppleTV software be downloaded to an Intel Mac Mini?

I don't have an Apple TV yet, but have a 250 harddrive networked to my wireless router. Also works as a print server... Would be ideal if you have appletelly

There is an app where you can use AppleTV on OSX, but it only supports Tiger at the moment, so if you're using Leopard you're out of luck. Apparently you can use it as you would FrontRow. I'm not sure of the name (nor the legalities), but a quick google should turn it up for you.

I really, really wish iTunes would support .avi. I know there are workarounds, but I don't want to re-encode everything or create a load of reference movies.

The Apple TV is extremely overpriced in Europe. It's €145 in US excluding tax and €299 in Ireland including tax. They never gave the price cut that they gave in US when Apple TV 2.0 was released.

Keep an eye on the refurb deals, I got an Apple TV there in January for e169.
