    Daily Mail wrote:
A schoolboy died after snorting heroin which he mistakenly thought was cocaine.

Francis Clapham, 16, bought the drug for £1 from a teenager in a park, an inquest heard.

But after sniffing the heroin with a friend he collapsed and was taken to hospital where he was put on a life-support machine.

The drug caused organ failure resulting in brain damage through oxygen starvation and he died two months later.

The inquest heard that Francis, who did not have a history of drug taking or dealing, was drinking vodka with a friend in a park in Nelson, Lancashire, when he decided to buy the drug.

    full story here.

    :-(
Francis's brother, Andrew, 19, said: "He thought it was cocaine and said that he and his friend had taken some.

"I only saw him taking a line of it but he might have had some more in his pocket. We had an argument about the drugs and he stormed out.
Nice brother, you think if he saw him taking it he could have stopped him. Maybe not.

I wonder would he have died if he had been given proper education about drugs beyond that they are evil. Same for those goons who were eating cocaine sandwiches (or whatever) a few months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

I doubt it. Stupid people generally end up killing themselves somehow. If they were given proper education about drugs they'd probably have died from chewing on electrical wires or something else they were told not to do.

have to disagree with you there, went to school in the uk and think that (at the time bout 10 years ago!) the drug education was spot on.

Theres no rehab for stupidity however!

Drugs are like the the Daily Mail (which is the link) everyone knows how bad they are, yet both are still widely popular

Yes more popular then you and you're anti drugs ways

Typical AH poster response to drugs:

"i think drugs are terrible, i dont go near them, people who do are stupid"

yet all the drink threads where people go on about their *crazy* drunken antics always fail to amuse me

Does Boards represent the hypocrisy in Irish society of people having a double standard when it comes to Alcohol/Drugs?

    Why yes it does.

You forgot the standar AH pro-drugs post: "but alcohol is legal!" Oh wait, you made that exact point...

Heroin can be white. I'd imagine that was the case in this incident.

buying heroin in the park from a teen for a quid ? what's the world coming to ?
on a side note is anyone else concerned with the fact that he contracted mrsa in hospital and had a reaction to the antibiotics ?

Well seeing as you dont know of the existence of white heroin, meh tbh.

Im wondering how he bought it for a quid.

Pure or near pure heroin can be snorted for effect, its the most common method in the US, however if rapidly loses its affect, causing people to begin injecting it.

I am not surprised at all. It is just beginning..

I think teenagers have lack of parental guidance, peer pressure and access to illegal substances are spooling their entire precious childhood.

It is becoming Teengers Vs Society. Society blames their parents. But parents are part Society it is going circles. Shop owners are buying some Ultra sonic devices to repel them. Teens will simply say they got bored. Of course you will get bored if you hang around same shopping mall day after day.

I never understand why they hang around shopping malls with 3 inch make up girls? Boys will wear those white stripe trousers which are meant to wear to go to gym or jogging. By the look of them they never run. If they ever run they might collapse. Why can’t they buy ball/ hurley stick and play around?

There is good article about Teenagers sexual habits and drug hobbits in Sunday times. Coincidently another article by Time magazine about teenagers this month (European Edition)

    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1725547,00.html

It is going to worst thanks to Internet.

Ha, that's classic :D You sound like on clued up bloke! And by that I mean "a twat".
Let's look at the facts. He bought what he thinks is cocaine, and it was sold to him at a strange price of £1 from a fellow kid.... there'd have to be at least the possibility that the other kid tried to trick him in to snorting heroin for some sort of hilarious jape. So now we have a 16 year old kid with apparently no history of drug use, snorting a white substance he has been told is cocaine, with no previous experience of cocaine or heroine. Oh and he was pished on vodka at the time.

Well played you twits talking about of Darwin awards and an idiot being wiped from the gene pool.

I blame tv, the decline of the church, the clousure of the magdalen laundries, tolerating unmarried parents, that swearin "bitch" "bling" and gun music those black lads sing, and the bang bang squeaky voice drug music personally.

Ever notice everyone who dies from drugs apparently never has a history of previous use?

Thank christ I survived my first time, I guess I can do as much as I like now :)

I'm 16 and have no clue what either looks like. I'd imagine it can be very hard to tell something you've never seen isn't the other thing you've never seen when it comes to that junk.

that's shocking man, poor kid, have a bit of respect, there are posters calling him names etc. and stupid. I don't consider myself stupid yet I was taking all sorts when I was his age, luckily I never got any heroin. It's not down to stupidity you just want to try all sorts when you're that age and exposed to these things and of a certain personality. And yes there is white heroin. He was very unfortunate, a small line of H is very unlikely to harm you, it's a pretty safe drug if it's good quality. People can take it all their lives.

What an idiotic thing to say, you obviously don't have a clue what you are on about. Take a look at Ricey's thread in PI, and then come back and tell me that it's a safe drug or you can take it all your life.

Resorting to name calling is quite immature don't you think?? Kids these days...

Lets look at the situation shall we?? So this guy goes to the park gets pissed and for no apparent reason, decides to be a badass and do some coke. The number one rule of drugs is that you DO NOT try them until you have checked out the possible effects and side effects of each. People using his age as an excuse need to remember he was 16. Thats 2 years off 18 years old , and by that stage, he should at least have had some idea about what drugs are. Would a price tag of £1 for a line of coke not start bells ringing?? In any of the group??? At the end of the day, he's dead and the fault rests solely with him for being so idiotic in the first place.

No offence but what the **** is wrong with you and the rest of them in here? He was 16 and made a drink-induced mistake and you're talking about idiocy and stupidity and side-effects of drugs? stfu. Check the side effects of the drugs? are you taking the piss? you want him to go home and google "side effects of cocaine/heroin" before doing a line? These drugs when mixed with alcohol cause different reactions and it's a very subjective, individualistic thing that google can not predict.

Seriously some of you in here make me want to puke with your bullsh1t insensitivity. Would ye go around saying the same if your brother or sister made a similar mistake that cost them their life?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭invincibleirish

Plenty people have managed to use Heroin all their lives without becoming junkies, Look at Miles Davis! his sound was borne of Heroin! off topic but the usual boards moral indignation makes me chuckle. if this kid had received better drugs education then he would not have snorted it. but righteous types would **** themselves silly if they found out a 16yr old was being instructed on how to differentiate between types of drugs.

    typical Daily Mail Headline:

Kids Being Thought In Our Schools To Use Drugs!

Spot on, some bad attitudes in here, different people have different views on drugs fair enough but sometimes the anti-drugs folks act like complete ignorant pr1cks therefore ruining any chance they have of putting their point across.
